H440 Glass side panel :D

clementk

So i wanted to do this for a long time but i did not want it to be to expensive. I normally do mods that are cheap to do and i did not think i would have a way to this cheap but then i i found the stuff and it cost less the $15 :D.

So first i had to measured the hole from the side window.(mine was around 11"x16") so where i found the glass was actually at a Wallmart. i was just looking in the Picture frame area and found a frame that was 12"x16" it was like ($5) then i needed a way to stick it to the side panel so i  looked around and i found some magnetic tap and tough it might be good to clean the glass when i need to. So i got home and wanted to see if it all fits

This is just some pics of the plastic side window.

I had to bend all the pins down as level as i can(can cut them but i did not want to).

I measured the amount to see if the magnet strips would be thick enough for the glass. it ended up not being enough so i added some double sided tap and it was enough :D lucky.

Next i had to cut some of the sound padding.

Next i cut the magnetic strips and the double sided tap and placed them around and then placed the glass in place.

And that was it :D really cheap and easy glass replacement.

Where do you get the glass?  Is the glass thick? The fact that his is just normal glass worries me.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Why would it be a problem?

well not really as its being held by magnetic strips and the pins that held the acrylic are still there they are just bent down. can just bend them up if i need to put the acrylic back( the acrylic is normally held by the pins.)

Also another fact to point out is that the glass he went with is pretty poor at heat tolerance. That is to say that it expands, unlike tempered glass which has better heat tolerance. And yes I do intend to mod my 900D by first, getting it painted in automotive paint by Singularity Computers, then get a 3/8" tempered glass panel of the same size as the polycarbonate window.

I've been thinking about replacing the window on mine for a while now. The problem with the factory window is that it is NOT acrylic; it's some kind of cheap ass plastic. Your solution is pretty sweet for the price. Like @thekeemo, I'd be a little bit concerned about it being just picture frame glass, which is on the extremely fragile side, one bump on that window might be disastrous.

One question I have for you, does the window now just sort of sit behind the actual insert for the window? The replacement windows I have considered getting are all beveled to get the same fit as the factory window and it seems like your window would have a lip around it from where the factory window actually sat, hopefully you know what im talking about.

Well i can tell you in person glass vs  acrylic is a massive upgrade. Looks way cleaner and does not have that weird blue tint that acrylics have :)

Yeah its just behind the Lip(wish it did not have that xD ) its not that much tho like 1 mm at most.

O yeah just wanted to mention as you can see its kinda filled with parts... its not light... i dont move it every xD  and one of the things why a replacement would not work would be because NZXT made the plastic plane have like groves cut into it so that it can't move.. and for a cheap price i don't think i would get glass with a grove in the right place xD

something that did come up with me make sure you can place the panel back after you put the glass on as i had to change the fan at the back from a 140 to 120 because i had it to close to the back.
