First PC Build

The Bar

So I have done some research and changed a few parts.  I what to know about the monitors as I went up to 28'' screens.  I dropped to 980 instead of 980 ti to save some money so I don't bottleneck those cards.  Changed my motherboard from the MSI gaming M7 to the Maximus VIII Hero so need feedback about that.  Is that cpu cooler worth it or is there another one out there.

Thanks in advance.

  1. nh-d14 is overkill for the 6600k. get the noctua u12s or the phanteks tc12 instead
  2. no thermal paste required. noctua comes with it
  3. motherboard is overkill
  4. 8gb is fine
  5. go with the evga classified acx 2.0 gtx 980's instead. they are more powerful and will overclock better
  6. you may need a 1000w psu for the evga 980's...

You aren't gonna need skylake, or 16 gb's of ram. Nor will you need extra thermal paste, and you're gonna want windows 10. I rearranged some things, and now there are two 980ti's for an extra 10 dollars. Even if you still decide to go with the 980's, go for 1440p, 1080p is a waste with that kind of power.

Just saw your budget from another post is under 3000, I'll work with it a bit more.

if you plan on getting two 980's in sli, i would go for a single 1440p monitor. 980's in sli play 1440p very well, especially when overclocked. the evga classified's will be your best choice

a friend of mine has two 980's in sli for 1440p and it's awesome

if you want to play 1080p, get a single 980 ti

I already have a case and I'll look into changing the monitors out.  How would it handle two 1440p monitors?

What case? I'm not sure, with a dual monitor setup one is usually gamed on while the other is just for video watching and internet browsing.

Aerocool Strike x GT and that was my plan for the two monitors

To save a little money could I have one 1440p for gaming and get 1080p as my second monitor?

I want to keep the 980's so I don't bottleneck the 980ti and I'm going to keep the skylake to somewhat future proof my computer.  I changed to windows just my only setback about it is that all the computer that I have it on is that it slows them down to unbearable speeds.
