My First Build - Gaming; also 3D Scanning, Modeling, and Printing

JR Tyner

1. Budget: $1000 Not including the parts I already own:

3D Printer - XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro.

Monitor - Using my TV

Power Supply  - Seasonic S12 II Bronze 620W 80Plus
Case -  Cooler Master N400 No Power Supply ATX Mid Tower (Midnight Black)
GPU -  EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 2GB SuperSC GDDR5 DVI/HDMI/3DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card
Motherboard -  ASRock H97 PRO4 LGA1150/ Intel H97/ DDR3/ SATA3&USB3.0/ A&GbE/ ATX Motherboard

Location: North Carolina, US

2. Aim

Gaming - I play games like Fallout 4, and I want to be able to record them. I've been following the development of a lot of VR games that use Oculus Rift. I want to try the demos, but I don't currently have the hardware.

3D Printing - I'm looking to be able to make 3D models based off game files for costumes.

I am also looking for suggestions for a 3D scanner that can scan heads so I can make custom helmets for me and my friends. I'll also need software recommendations if you don't mind?

3. Monitors

I'm currently using the same TV that I use for my Xbox One and PS4, and it looks great for now. I'd rather spend more money on the PC hardware now and then buy a better monitor after I get my tax refund.

4. Peripherals

I will need a new keyboard, mouse, OS, etc...

5. Why are you upgrading? My old PC was stolen.

I was looking at this memory:

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10Q-32GBXL

So you have the stuff you listed under there then? If so you should just get a 5820K and be set for life, or get a Xeon 1231v3 and a higher end GPU, or Xeon 1231v3 and a Large 4k display for 1:1 modeling viewing with more detail than a large 1080p display

5820K option

Oh yes, I agree. Like I said, after I get back my tax refund, I can get a better monitor. That should only take a month or two and then I'll be able to get a permanent one. I do have all the parts listed at the top, so I don't have to count those in the budget. And by using my TV for a month or two, I'll have at least $500 or more just for a new monitor.

I was looking at that same CPU until a friend of mine told me that on benchmark tests, it preforms worse than lower GHz processors. This disappointed me because I've been wanting a 4GHz Processor, but after watching some CPU unboxing and builds on YouTube, I've realized there is so much more to CPUs than their GHz speed. My concern now is that 4 cores might not be enough? 3D Printing takes a long time, and I want to still be able to do other things at the same time without loosing speed.
