Install AMD Gamimg Evolved App or not?

I am installing drivers for my gpu. I heard some time ago that the AMD Gaming Evolved App would often or always crash? Is this true? And hence should I not install it?

 

Question being does it still crash or has AMD fixed this problem?

Never had any problems with it crashing but I find it an insanely annoying piece of software and find no use for it. I wouldn't get it.

OBS would be better than the screen cap in Gaming Evolved.

Download Crimson though.

Never had any "problems" with it, but it does suck up resources and its game "optimization" feature doesn't really work that well. I also found that it maintains an open connection to its server and regularly sends packets that caused a spike in my network usage, which in turn caused lags in my Twitch streaming. So unless you really need to use some feature it provides, I wouldn't waste the time or storage space.

It sucks. Crimson has all the features you need and it's not bloatware. Just use OBS or whatever if you actually record.

Is the Gaming Evolved App the same as the Gaming App? Msi seem to have included a separate exe as well just for the Gaming App.

Raptr is garbage for streaming & recording don't use it.

I used it last December for GVR,  no crashing but recording quality is not as good as MSI Afterburner with VCE. Nice low performance hit though.

I installed the Gaming App to see if it was the same as the Gaming Evolved App. It was not

I have it installed, it never really does anything intrusive or annoying, just sits in the background

i use it for record games with Rapts (that come with AMD ge)

 

and yea... some game are not compatible, but is a "free" recording program

 

and do the job well (i like recording on 720p 60fps 20Mb/s)

I feel Gaming Evolved was AMD's answer to GeForce Experience, but the fact they chose to adapt a version of software that was poorly designed - low, laggy; nevermind their business model is stupid... "use us an inhumane amount or wait years to get 80,000 points for an outdated GPU." Alright then.

It's been a 270 since I began using Raptr back in 2010~.

 

Regardless, the time it takes you to get said card won't be worth as much as the reward, which was the point I was trying to make.

No no, you're kinda missing the point in this. Its a reward for using that app to play a game. Not something you grind for. That's why there's a cap to the amount of point you can earn per day. Games are much cheaper. Its supposed to be like "Oh hey, I have enough for a new gpu. Maybe I can build a htpc." Not a "I must play everyday to get that new gpu." 

 

Btw. The 270 didn't come out till late 2013.

Fair does, I overaggerated, but you're not entirely understanding, either. You're saying you just leave Gaming Evolved on in the background, allow it to invade every game you play, give you points, just so that one day in the next three or four years you can go;

I'm saying that the majority of us don't want that invasiveness. I wasn't wrong when I said I used Raptr at one point, and all it seemed to do was crash my display driver and games. Do I want that for the chance to buy a low-end graphics card in the future on the off-chance I fancy building a HTPC? Not really.
