Best laptop for school under 300.

Go to solution Solved by KuJoe,

I ordered an ASUS K200MA refurbished off Newegg for $210 shipped and it's amazing. I threw a 256GB SSD in there, upgraded to Windows 10 64bit, and I love it. Battery life is great, comes with an actually NIC (unlike the newer netbooks), the Celeron is pretty powerful for the price, 4GB of RAM standard is double what you'll find in most Atom based netbooks, and the touchscreen is a huge plus (I didn't expect to use it but I carry a stylus/pen around with me all the time now).

EDIT: Looks like the price went up to $220 on Newegg, still worth it IMO.

I just need something with a decent display, great battery life(5+), and a big enough keyboard for large hands. $300 is my budget. Preferably new and light.

Consider any chrombook at this price.

I would consider a chromebook but I do prefer a laptop running windows due to the sheer amount of programs that are compatible with it.

Out of sheer curiosity, do you know anything under 200?

I would go for a HP Stream, which comes with Office 360. Here are some of the models

Also you could go for an Asus trnasformer:

there are also cheaper models you could go for. The HP Stream gets as cheap as $200

It's a pretty good deal considering it comes with full Office 365 for a year. The only downside are horrendous (in my opinion) colors

I agree. So is it even worth it do spend $150 on a laptop?

um... It depends. If you just need it for writing essays and such for school, I think it would work fine. You could even hook it up to a spare monitor if you wanted. But if you wanted to do some gaming or use even somewhat intensive applications, it probably won't be the best choice.

I have a desktop for my gaming needs. I just need something to get essays done, watch youtube videos, last me the whole day. That's about it.

Any suggestions?

yeah, I would go for the HP then. Not certain about the battery life tho. And the included Office 365 will help too. There is also an Acer one that comes with Office 365 and is a more decent color but is $~30 more expensive:

However, the HP Stream only has 32gb of storage and the Acer has 64gb. But they both have OneDrive, if you use it.

This is basically the same thing with a slower CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232101

There are also some 15.6" variants available for under $300 if you want a bigger screen + keyboard and an optical drive.

I think that I will just wait until the back to school sales. Do you know when most manufacturers release new laptops?

Why don't you watch for ThinkPad X220/T420?They are pretty great laptops, even for this day.Throw in SSD,and you will be perfectly happy with it.It is still better than those Celeron/Atom notebooks.
