Does HDMI support 1080p 144Hz? I am going to be making a bigger desk soon and my VG248QE is going to be farther away from my tower, so I need to use HDMI. Thoughts?

yes.

edit: enderman said that it doesn't so i presume that's the right answer..

I believe it's limited to 120fps at 1080p. If you don't mind me asking, why do you need to use HDMI for longer distance? You can buy pretty long DP cables. $12 for 25ft at Monoprice.

Because I have it on hand. I am going to Home Depot later so I suppose I can get a DisplayPort cable... What about those?

well if HDMI does 4k@30

so 3840*2160*30 = 1920*1080*x = 120Hz

Display Port 1.2 is better in every way than HDMI, so I'm 99.9% sure it does 144Hz @1080p. I actually think it supports 144Hz up to 1440p? My numbers may be slightly off.

You could always order a cable online and use HDMI for a few days. Cables like these are often triple the price at retail stores compared to online.

On a side note... Home Depot sells cables and stuff? I must not go often enough, haha~

Yeah they do. I'll see what they have when I get there, right now the HDMI only does 60Hz right now for some reason.

Lot of misinformation here... This is covered in the pinned thread at the top of this section (here).

Long story short. Yes, HDMI 1.4 supports 1080p 144Hz. It is not limited to 60Hz or 120Hz. However, the VG248QE will not accept 1080p 144Hz signals over HDMI anyway. You will need to use Dual-Link DVI or DisplayPort.
