When I overclocked my 970, I increased the core clock little by little, stress testing each time, until it would stop boosting. Then I would slowly increase the voltage, also stress testing each time.

dont touch the voltage unless you cant OC the GPU using power limit

 

In afterburner set the power limit to the highest

 

start tweaking the GPU core speed till it not stable in GPU-Z ID render test and then go into Unigine Heaven and test it further

 

if you have 3Dmark

 

you can test your OC using that as well

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
