So I'm trying to help a friend plan a gaming build, but I haven't really been paying attention lately to the market so I'm not entirely sure about suggestions that I give him.  His budget is $500 and can't really stray far from that.  This pc is going to be used solely for a gaming rig.  He has no parts or peripherals laying around, so this build is going to be from scratch, except for windows which he already has.  This build is going to be in the U.S. and we have access to a micro center if that helps.

Thank you.

I know you won't get much for $500 including peripherals.

700 is probably the lowest you can get a complete computer for that can actually play games.

Here you go: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Aisp

The is far from a powerhouse and won't be too upgradeable due to the form factor.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Aiv2

Weaker and more expensive but easier for upgrades up to some decently powerful gpus like a 7950/760.

Here is my submission. Like everyone else, I would suggest save up to at least $700 just because it'll last longer and you can get a better quality items. I left the keyboard and mouse out because I feel that's a preference thing. If you want to add a monitor + mouse and keyboard I would guess at least another $100 or so.
