Optimal speaker placement?

I have a pair of stereo speakers in front of me, near field, about 2 ft away.

What is the optimal distance they should be apart?

And should they be angled toward me or pointed straight forward?
Current config:

Generally you want them facing at you, or as close to that as possible, but if that would cause them to have to point towards each other significantly, I think that is generally to be avoided.

snip

Stereo sound theory suggests that they are the same distance apart as they are to your ears, making a triangle with your head and speakers in it. Also point them directly at your ears.

Depends on the speaker.

OK, i can try multiple configs. The guy i bought them from had them in an about 6-8 ft eqalateral triangle, but pointed straight forward, thats why I ask.

Depends on the speaker.

I think generally you want them facing at you, but you also don't want them toed in so much that it affects the soundstage, right?

I have a pair of stereo speakers in front of me, near field, about 2 ft away.

What is the optimal distance they should be apart?

And should they be angled toward me or pointed straight forward?

Current config:

If the center of your head is 2 feet away from both speakers, optimal distance between them would typically be anywhere from 1.5 feet to 3.0 feet depending on the recording (around 45 to 90 degrees apart).

As for speaker toe, dynamic drivers generally offer the best response on-axis (pointing to your ears). This is especially true for speakers like yours (full-range), as they tend to beam more in the upper freqs. However, some can sound better a bit off-axis (especially those that exhibit a high frequency lift). Play around with positioning and go with what you like.

I dont think it really matters, from the looks of the photo your in a small room, there be random spots of cancellation and it be different for each frequency. I suspect the speaker lobes as well so there is so many factors just sit where you want to sit and then just see if your happy how it sounds.

The Dick of the audio page!
