Corsair 650D Build

Hi everyone smile.png This is my first personal rig. Don't really have a name for it, any thoughts? Finished it a while ago but have been upgrading it with a few parts. Any comments, thoughts and suggestions would be great :)

The specs:

Case: Corsair Obsidian 650D

CPUI: i7 2600k @ 4.2 ghz

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD5

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 16gb

Power Supply: Corsair AX850 PSU

Graphics Cards: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

Sound Card: ASUS Xonar Essence ST (sounds amazing with Sennheiser HD 598s)

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Axp-140

Optical Drives: Pioneer DVR-219L and Pioneer BDR-207DBK Blu-Ray (Front of them is plain black so doesn't look that bad)

HDD: Intel 520 240gb SSD, Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB and some old Hitachi 1TB drive

Fan Controller: AeroCool V12XT (Didn't really like the reflective screen, but it controls fans well so I put it inside the case rather than have it on the front. Can adjust the fans for warm weather in Australia)

Fans: Changed out the stock fans and put in a Spectre Pro 200mm in the front, 2 x 140mm in the top and a 120 Spectre Blue Led in the back. Got some nice Bitfenix Alchemy cables as well smile.png

Mouse: Razer Imperator and Goliathus mouse mat

Keyboard: Corsair K95

Speakers: Corsair SP2500

Lighting: NZXT Sleeved LED Cable 2m Blue

Looking to water cool in the future but would probably be changing case for that, any sugestions? :)

I know the cable management in the back is a bit hectic but the side panel shuts ok and its the best I could do with the tonne of cables that are there.

Here are some photos of the build and my setup, hope you guys like it smile.png

Looks good! But, I would tuck those cables that are showing at the hard drive cages behind the mobo tray.

This is what I kept hearing sandy bridge doesn't support pci 3.0 So u won't get the most out of ur graphics card is that true?

Great job with the cable management (on the front at least) looks very nice and clean.

No that is not true as long as you run your GPUs in 16x or 8x. It becomes more of an issue if you're running, for example, Crossfire with one of the cards in an 4x slot (nVidia doesn't officially support SLI on anything less than 8x, no matter what PCIe version) where the bandwidth might be too limited for the card, PCIe 3.0 means that 4x gets the same bandwidth as PCIe 2.0 8x but AFAIK no card can max out a PCIe 2.0 8x slot.

thanks mate. yeah the front is what i look at so i put a bit more effort into it. Yeah i have the 780 in 16x and there is barely any difference between the 2.0 slot and a 3.0 slot

Thanks :) I built the pc when they were coming to the end of that cycle so I got the sandy bridge stuff for a bit cheaper and glad I did because for performance, Ivy and Haswell havent increased that much to regret going with the older one. Ill eventually water cool the whole system and just overclock the i7 some more.

Damn that rig looks great!

The 650D is such a smart looking case. I love the reference GTX780 too. But please consider getting a beefier air cooler for that cpu - I used to had a UD5 and that board loved to make the most out of my 2600k. You should certainly can go higher than 4.2GHz, not that you'll need it :)

Cheers! First reference card that i didnt even look at any aftermarket ones for cause it looks so good. Yeah i still have this cooler from a matx build but still does a good job. Ill eventually just build a custom loop so i can overclock then :)

Mate I have the same case, sound card and overall similar specs as you. If you are planning on doing a custom loop maybe check out my build 'SilentCure' for some ideas. If you have any Q's on the process of watercooling feel free to ask me..

just ordered that led kit for my 650D as my led strip blew up on me. looks nice will probably be looking to upgrade my gpu when the 800series comes out that green light does looks so nice in with the blue if the stock cooler looks like that will definitely be picking it up.

Am picking up a new desk soon, what is the width of your desk?? as I want my 650D up on it like you have it??

hey mate, sorry for the late reply. been crazy busy with uni. yeah the led's fill it with some pretty awesome light. the width of my desk is 148mm. Its great having the pc on the desk. Oh and btw with the fan in the front I have a 200mm bitfenix spectre pro. I turned it down a bit and it fits perfectly so yeah.
