Can i use the Sennheiser HD 451, 461, 471's with a mac because from reading the description of the products it only shows that its compatible with mobile devices. I wanna use one of the headphones for studio monitoring and listening to playback of vocal recordings but I'm also not sure which ear cup material would be best for isolation and comfort.

Which out of the three would you pick

Why wouldn't it work?

What they mean with that it's compatible with mobile devices is that mobile devices will manage to drive the headphones. It will work just fine on a Mac.

Maybe look at used higher end models, since a pair of headphones has a burn in about 100 hours and you can change the pads on most

No need to be so melodramatic and post-happy :P

SSL isn't a murderer. He just likes to burn people. He's a proponent of the idea that for this phenomenon, break-in is a more suitable term than burn-in because of its mechanical and discrete nature, as opposed to an electrical nature. Furthermore, experiments thus far point to the idea that break-in is not a phenomenon you should worry about: even if it does occur, it doesn't make a significant audible difference. An example of a discussion of this: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/532194-burn-in-for-hd558/

Well my first language isn't English so I sometimes call things by something that's not 100% correct in a situation. I still think that OP should see if he could find some higher end headphones used.

Using dumb terminology aside, buying something used specifically because it will be burned in is stupid. Personally I don't think it's worth getting a product without a warranty just for 100 hours of "burn in"

If the op is in the budget range of the Sennheiser HD4xx headphones, they aren't likely to be able to get anything much better even used. I recommend the HD558 or HD518 if isolation is not needed.

Now for musical instruments (string atv least), break in is a thing, corect?

Yeah, only reason for buying used should be cost savings, like i do.

Oh yeah. More than that, constant wear is a thing. I spent a bundle not too long ago getting the hammers on my piano reshaped and voiced. Transformed the sound completely.

Yeah, my cello teacher says if he doesnt play his cello for a few days, it sound bad for about a day.

I dont notice that with mine, but mine is a 2,000$ chinese cello, his is a 100,000$ hand made cello
