So, here's my situation. i have a i7 4790k and a cooler master hyper 212 evo.

i'm currently interested in overclocking and was able to push my cpu to about 4.6 Ghz boost with good temperatures (around 60C)

I was wondering a it would be worth it to buy a AIO water cooler for my CPU. (Or high performance air cooler)

My PC case is A cooler master haf X (the really big one) so it is compatible with most radiators.

Basically im looking for cooling options that would help in overclocking my CPU. thanks

Not worth ... 4.6 is already a really good overclock.

Buying one over the 212 Evo? No.

Keep the Evo try doing 4.7 at 1.30 if that doesn't work do 1.3250 and if that again doesn't work 1.350.

Run the stress test for 12-24 hours and make sure the system is stable and does not throttle.

A bigger air cooler will dissipate more heat thus allowing a higher overclock. (e.g. NH-D15)

A higher end water cooler will dissipate a bit more heat than that, but are less reliable (possibility of a leak etc.).

(e.g. Corsair H100)

Almost as cool as my temps

Leaks? But aren't premade prefilled AIO very rare to leak? like only a few in the world?

1.35v will make that i7 go over 82C easily with a 212

I have an nhd-15 and it cant cool more than 1.3v @ 4.94ghz without going over 76C in benchmarks but real world and gaming it never goes above 68C

hehe ya very lucky, scored 1008CB in cinebench r15

Thats why i was thinking when u said 1.35v on a hyper 212 it wouldnt be able to get very far lol unless his chip is better than mine

Without knowing your voltages it would be impossible to give you an accurate answer. Best Price:Performance solution is delidding. Price of CLU is ~$12 in the U.S., just have to be willing to pop off the IHS. Temp differences range from 8-17C regardless of cooling.

AIO would only be worth it if you're stuck around 1.2-1.25v and you're not willing to delid. Even then that would just indicate a greater need for a delid.
