Recently, my WiFi card failed, and it has been causing me trouble for some time. I was thinking of moving to a power line solution (Ethernet just isn't feasible), but I'm wondering if it will suit my needs, and any experiences you guys have had with it.

1. I need great download and upload. My current plan gives me 300 Mbps, and I would like to see a good deal of that.

2. I need low packet loss.

3. I need decent ping, preferably under 30.

If you guys have had these meant on your own power line solutions, please tell me, along with any bad experiences. Thanks!

I tested out my power lines with my brother's adapter first.  I lose 25%-40% download speed with powerline.  75Mb/s down to 40-60.  I have not tested for packet loss, but I suspect the connection suffers from it.

It is still worth it to not have the 50ft ethernet running through my hallway.  I still lift my feet when I cross that area

I'm using powerline right now, works excellent. although the maximum speed is around 100mbs. It's really hard to find a powerline kit that goes above 100mbs.

Even if the package says 500mbs, it doesn't actually reach that by a long shot.

the cheap ones will allow you to get 500mbps

im getting 12ms

that's not the speed you will get though. My kit is rated to '500' as well, but that's just box marketing. the actual speed is 100

well depends on the age of the home and the electricals in your household. i have a 60mbps but at the beginning for 50mbps of that so pretty good recently i've been getting 15mbps with it.

so careful how you configure it.

packet loss and speed won't be a problem if your house isn't old. Ping will be slightly higher, at least from my experience. get a AV 500 kit from D-link I had mine since black friday and it's been pretty good.

I get more speed out of my connection than what I pay for (33-35 vs 30) so I really cant test

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

I feel I need to post this in every thread because it seems to come up over and over again. The bold bits are the highest speeds you'll likely see on any one device at once, the other stuff on the WiFi explaination is how they get the numbers.

Powerline:

AV-200: ~40Mbps

AV-500: ~70Mbps

AV2-600/1200/2000: ~150Mbps

WiFi:

N150: ~30Mbps

N300: ~70Mbps

N600: N300 on 2.4G + N300 on 5G

AC1200: N300 on 2.4G + ~250Mbps on 5G ("300" + "900")

AC1900: "N600" on 2.4G + ~400Mbps on 5G ("600" + "1300")

Well, i got a big yard so i wanted to extend my wifi with powerline.

I tested a GIGAbit Powerline adapter from Devolo.

Got worthless speeds because of the old electrical wiring.

So I just bought a one at my local shop to test the speeds, also refunded.

Speed is very depended on the electrical wiring.
