Pentiums and celerons are great for office PCs.

AMD apus are good too but it just depends on pricing.

its very confusing imo when they use the name of something so old in something new like why not just call it a core or core i1 or something not pentium to make people think its something super old in there if u look at a pc in a shop that is pre built they dont usually tell u the part number of the cpu they just say core i7, i5 etc so when they say pentium u have no clue what gen or anything and to some people like me lol they think its a super old cpu (obviously i know there are new pentiums now)

Budget CPUs are always required in the marketplace. Besides, you never know, they might go back to the pentium name for enthusiast grade CPUs. I mean, just look at the resurgence of the FX brand with AMD.

If all you need is web browsing and office work, there's nothing wrong with pentium rigs, stick in an ssd and because you store everything on servers and your in business

I don't understand the problem with Pentiums. Why should they be discontinued? How does those basic CPU's affect anyones lives here?

The Pentiums are for people who literally don't do anything else with their machine other than browse the web and read emails. They don't play games, watch high definition videos or do anything too demanding. It would be pointless to sell them CPU's that they won't need.

Buying second hand someone elses rig is even more absurd. Something priced at that low would be at least couple of years old so they wouldn't have warranty and their lifespan would be shorter. Also you can't buy them from your local store and you would have to settle the spec the pc happens to be at. Also there wouldn't be used pc's available for everyone.

For some reason this topic feels like there is a guy who basically says that if you don't have the money or need for at least i3 processor, you shouldn't buy a pc at all. Or you should buy my used rig so I can upgrade.

One of the advantages of getting a socket 1150/1155 pentium is you have the freedom to get something better down the line, where If you were to get say a 775 penitum, the highest you can go is a core 2 quad. And with 478, the max really being a pentium 4.
