How much are you willing up pay?

Where are you going to be buying?

Is this going to be strictly for the pc, or are you going to be using it on the go as well?

What form factor? Closed? Open?

Any particular brand that you would like to buy from?

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/

Budget dosen't matter (under a $1000), I don't know, with mic and or headphones plus seprate mic,

Open or closed?

Open provides a better soundstage and you can hear things outside of your computer, and the sounds made from your computer leak out of your headphones. I suggest Googling the differences though because I'm by no means an expert on the differences of them. I personally prefer open.

If you have that much money to put towards an audio setup, I'd probably recommend getting a nice mic like an Audio-Technica AT2035/AT2020, a mic stand, and a mixer to go with it (as for which mixer, idk. Take a peek on Amazon's top sellers to see some cheap better ones). As for headphones, I've only had experience with Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros (closed) and Sennheiser HD598 SEs (open). My Beyers were incredibly comfortable, but I just ended up not liking them (mainly because of the way they looked and I could never hear anything outside of them which is just a feature of closed headphones). My Senns are nice, but many people will recommend HD 558s unless you can get the 598s on sale. Beyerdynamic DT 770s (closed), DT 990s (open), Sennheiser HD 558s (open), and Audio-Technica ATH-M50Xs (closed) are amongst the most popular recommendations I see from people around these forums. None of which are too expensive.

Oh, and if you have that kinda budget I suppose you might as well throw in an AMP/DAC as well. The FiiO E10K is quite the recommended one around here.

Do I need a soundcard to power the setup? Or will the MSI X99A RAIDER do?

On-board audio would be fine unless you get some headphones that require extra power that your on-board audio won't power properly, or for some reason you hear strange noises that aren't supposed to be there.

Or unless you want a physical volume control knob, which that's mainly what I use mine for since I don't have headphones that would actually require an amp.

I'm not the best when it comes to audio, could you put togheter a setup for around $1000?

I would start lower for someone who wants to get more into audio for the first time, the diminished return line is usually around $200-300 for most people.

I think something like the Fidelio X2 with the V-Moda Boom mic would fit your needs perfectly. (QC has been an issue for the X2 recently though)

Fun sound and good sound stage "for gaming" if you're into that and no amplifier needed to fuss about.

HifiMan HE-560 w/ Schiit magni 2 Uber, easily the best bang for buck for high-end headphone

If going this route, Focus-A pads are a necessity. Makes the HE-560 warm(er) and yummy.

Also, did you try them or something recently? Seems like you've recommended them several times in threads over the past little bit.

Given that I've tried HE-500 and how people say HE-560 sounds similar to HE-500, it must be good. Personally, I see HE-500 as a headphone that's good enough for end-game

Granted, I had a bad experience with HE-560. But I'm pretty sure there was an anomaly in the setup that I tested.

What was the setup?

I've actually heard that the HE-560 *doesn't* sound like the HE-500, at least with the stock pads. The consensus on Changstar/SuperBAF seems to be that the HE-560 is better than the HE-500 in technicalities.

I have Philips Fidelio x2 and I love them, but it is the only headphones in that class I have tried...

AKG K612Pro it's a very flat and accurate set of openback headphones that cost around 200$ I think.

If you also want speakers I would go with something like the JBL LSR 305 really good set of speakers, but if you live in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Finland, Germany or switzerland I woul recomend that you look at the Argon 7460A they should be on sale and they are amazing.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.
