its going to 4.1ghz !!!!!!!!! @ 35c

Good, very very good. Can you return the 970?

The problem now is that we don't know if the GPU is faulty, the windows install is borked, the drivers are borked or if the motherboard is getting messed up.

Drivers interfering with the CPU? Guess what you could do is a DDU and install the 970, then install the 970 drivers, and then run Cinebench to see if the CPU ramps up.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

seemed resetting the mother board twice fixed it

Could be your bios settings, if they're on auto it can make your motherboard freak out, happened to my brother's Gigabyte UD5 randomly.

Can you post a link to your Firestrike? If you're running reference speeds you should be able to get a decent overclock on your 970 even though it's a reference blower.

His score is low because of the combined and physics tests with the FX.

i'm not saying it *is*

i'm saying theres the possibility of it being related.

if i was convinced it was his cpu, i'd have told him to throw the FX chip out the window. (which i've done before, but does not apply here.)

Are you the one that had their PC catch fire, and thusly threw it out the window? (Or something like that. I remember someone on here had a story like that.)

i dont remember if i tortured it while testing, or if it was just doing the regular stuff, but my system is rarely idle.

i'll do some testing next time i take down my servers for cleaning, because they're currently plugged into the wattmeter.

i had one catch fire, let it run on fire for an afternoon to let it finish its job, then took it apart and let the parts air out.

since last month its reassembled and working with the same parts.

HP office workstation from 2005 with an athlon 64. may as well be the most reliable computer i have xD

thats kinda how it went, the garage was filled with smoke, but it was doing a big download so i just let it run until the download was finished, then turned it off and got the data off the drive.
