Argument against windowed PC cases?

Is there an argument against PC cases that have windows?

I have been thinking about whether even the slightest build up of dust would ruin the aesthetics. This would especially be a problem if you have spent extra £££ or $$$ or €€€ on colour matching components just to have that ruined by dust. Also, how many months would it take for the dust to become apparent or obvious.

Can someone who uses a windowed case explain whether I am worrying over nothing? Cheers.

Or, you know, you could just clean your PC every once in a while...

Arguments against windowed cases:

  • They're sometimes more expensive
  • They are louder than sound deadened options (which are usually always not windowed).
  • If you have horrible colour co-ordination and useless cable management, everyone will know.

Mmmm yeah, that's about it.

this a bit off topic. I have the same 980Ti as you. Were you able to get the light to stay solid?

Nope. ASUS needs to change that. At least it stays in sync with the LED on my MOBO.

Can get better sound dampening with a non-windowed case, if you value silence.

I haven't cleaned my S340 in like 4 months and I can't even see any dust on my window

The only problem is a dropped it shortly after I bought it and there's a crack on the corner ;_;

Honestly the only downsides I see is :

- if you have shit cable management

- if you have poorly color matched parts

- if you don't like a e s t h e t i c s

Most windows are pretty easy to scratch, which imo is the biggest problem with them. You obviously can avoid this, just be careful.

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

how do you do that?

IDK. It just does it by itself. When I start it up, they're just in sync.

I don't have a windowed case because a windowed case let's out more noise vs a non-windowed case.

Not really... if you have silent fans, you can even hear them in a open case. For example R5 windowed is silent enough for me... at idle cant anything and when im gaming/doing work the ran ramp up but if wear a headphones you wont notice it.

I would trade mine for a Matrix 980Ti in a heartbeat

Well, the Matrix costs 100 USD more, so...  :D

if you're worried about dust on the acrylic window, it's a simple fix, rub a dryer cloth on the inside of the window

I like the sound dampening it has.

I don't have the cash to get parts that matches in color. My build is rainbow.

There's usually one component that just has to have light on it. I can only sleep in complete darkness and I like to keep my comp on most of the time even when I sleep.

I'm not that type of guy who looks over my computer and appreciate the insides. If I felt like doing that I'll take off the side panel. So usually I like my build having a stealth look. Basically meaning I like bland but sleek style cases.

They don't keep your case 100% dust free

You also need positive pressure. It's obviously not going to be 100%, but the cleaning won't be frequent.
