Is it worth the extra for skylake?

I was thinking about a motherboard upgrade...

I am currently using a Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H motherboard.,

I am kind of stuck with choosing between maximus 7 hero or ranger.

Which one should I choose???

The Maximus 7 hero is a really good mother board and I think it's better than the ranger, I was gonna get the Maximus 7 hero until the skylake series came out and got the Maximus 8 hero and I can say that the Maximus 7 hero is a top notch board that has a shit ton of good features and is amazing for overclocking, and asus makes it so ull have the best bios ever made to control ur PC, I research a lot about this board and I can honestly say this board is more than enough and will do the trick

That motherboard is pretty overkill, and it makes very little sense to get a Z97 since you can't overclock with the i5 4590. You'd be better off getting a cheap H97 motherboard instead.

If you can spend that much on a mobo, I'd go for a 6600K and Z170 instead.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Spoiler

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K - 4.5 GHz | Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO | RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 | SSD: Samsung 850 EVO - 500GB | GPU: MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6GB | PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 | Case: NZXT Phantom 530 | Cooling: CRYORIG R1 Ultimate | Monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Peripherals: Corsair Vengeance K70 and Razer DeathAdder

I am currently using a 4 years old mobo...and a i7-4770

Just gonna buy 7 hero coz i dun wan the old one die on my hand,.,,,,

I am okay with overkilled motherboard though,as long as it has good quality.

In the future I will eventually go for a i-4790k as a upgrade.,

Yea it is over killing your motherboard but if you're upgrading to a 4790k it's worth it

But he is right, if ur willing to spend a little bit more on ur mobo or the same price and u buy a 6600k its gonna come out cheaper than buying a Maximus 7 hero and a 4790k

Also u can get the Maximus 8 hero or one of the Msi gaming motherboard and buy a 6700k and it'll come at the same price but u have to change ur ram, it's really up to u
