How off topic can Off Topic get?

Dobbsjr

I know people have argued about this before, but I still think that you should be able to post anything here. That said the other side has a point too. If users post unrelated content doesn't that defeat the purpose of a tech forum?

Then honestly it defeats the purpose of a off-topic sub-forum.

Pretty much anything that fits in the CoC; posts in Off-Topic don't count to post count.

My rig: Intel Core i7-8700K OC 4.8 | NZXT Kraken X62 | ASUS Z370-F | 16 GB Trident Z RGB 3000 (2x8) | EVGA 1070 SC | EVGA SuperNova NEX650G1 | NZXT H700 | Samsung 250GB 850-EVO | 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDDs

Mods sometimes lock thread that wouldn't at all be for people on LTT, so I guess not tech related.. But still related to the users here

In essence, in-line with CoC and not a status update.

Yeah, seems like mods lock or dont lock off topic threads with that thing in mind.

But there is still guidelines in Off topic, would suggest you took a look at those

I think anything is fine as long as its in line with the COC or not just down right shit posting.

EDIT: Or if something can go as a status update the mods prefer that.

I made a topic about dating advice and it was as off topic as it gets

I think the dating advice topics are the ones that some users really don't like on this forum.

I got quite a bit of help on mine actually but hey if they don't like them they don't have to post them.

I think the dating advice topics are the ones that some users really don't like on this forum.

Some people are apprehensive about them because they raise the stereotype that we're nerds, therefore, we suck at relationships and lapse into an antisocial nerd psychosis if a girl so much as talks to us. Which is BS. A lot of us here are in stable, healthy, wholesome relationships with other people (some even have spouses), and we give quite solid advice to members who come with questions/worries/concerns that need to be settled. we're a lot better at dating advice than you might think.

I, for example, always tell people that people are people regardless of their gender, so you should just talk to them normally if you're interested in them. And if you become friends, then great. If not, that's okay. Then I hug them.

Imo we're better at loving people than non-techies, because we have a much more stable perspective on things that most other couples fight and break up over. We also tend to be a lot less aggressive and confrontational in a normal IRL setting.

Unless you come up to us and say that AMD is better than Intel, because we don't stand fo dat shit. we'll rek you. :P

Thought, I think we should have a secret shit post thread. Like, it doesn't show up in the website, or in recent topics.

So for instance Off Topic is at ".../forum/50-off-topic/"

I think shit post mountain should be at ".../forum/mountain/b/shit/post/secret"

I'd bookmark it :)

That's actually a really good idea. And make it so that google can't - oh wait, no, maybe not so good. Imagine the level of Touhou Project porn alone. We don't want it to turn into /b/. Anything but that.

Well, it will have it's own course of rules of course.

No porn. Will probably end up being one of those rules.

Didn't know that particular stereotype was a thing.

I tend to think of a girl techie as a female version of my IRL self. A skinny, planky kid in a Tek Syndicate T-shirt, hiking trousers and a hoodie, slouching in her chair, with her feet up on the desk behind a wall of monitors.

Ehh... not really. She strikes me as a bit too... goth/emo? Too much eyeliner. and piercings. and long nails. and she's buzzed off a load of her hair. That's just weird.

You've seen my picture in the Show Yourself thread. Think of that, but with long hair. And a different bequest of "family jewels".

But no breasts. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat. Exact same clothes.

@Dobbsjr Sorry for derailing your thread. I guess that's a show of how off-topic off-topic can get.

But if you really want to see what happens when you stretch the boundaries as far as they can go, I would suggest that you take a gander at this thread.

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/521101-fetish-infested-norwegian-circle-jerk-tea-scones-alpha-thread/

This was originally called the "Tell Us About Yourself" thread. Read through and watch what happens. Aytex becomes a bike and Noire rides him. And I draw a picture.

Then locks happen.
