Gonna replace the 4670k in my main rig with a 6600k, new motherboard, memory and cooler. Gonna use the 4670k in my secondary rig, wanted to get something used, but the prices people want for used hardware these days (atleast around here) are ridiculous.

Getting off topic tho .. What i was wondering is, how good is the "Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3", i have been using a NH-D14 for many years and its worked out great, im going for a red and black build tho and the noctua cooler really doesnt fit that :) Thought about getting an AIO instead which would take up less space, but i like my things quiet and most AIOs dont seem to do quiet that good compared to air coolers.

From what i have been able to gather is that the cooler works great and is very silent, the mouting should be a bit of a pain in the ass, but how much of a pain?

its a bit worse than the NH-D14

temp-load.jpg

They dont really state how fast the any of the coolers are running tho, i mean i run my NH-D14 with ultra low noise adapters and my 4670k at 4.2Ghz. What i love about AIOs is that you get all the clutter away from around the CPU so you have better space to work, but as someone that never used an AIO im just concerned how much noise the pump makes, not so much the fans, those you can always replace.

holy sht, is the Hyper212 THAT bad? I though it was reasenable, time to upgrade to Noctua D15

Its good just not when running a 3770k at 4.6.

as for op, the dark rock pro 3 is a good cpu cooler, just beware of bequiets atrocious mounting.

Im looking at the Dark Rock 3, not the pro, then again the difference only seems to be 1 fan vs 2 on the pro, but yeah the mounting seems like the biggest drawback.

I don`t overclock that, but I`m planning to OC quiet a bit, if my 4690K allows it

to game or not to game, that`s the question

im running the amd3+ braket, on a dark rock pro 3  its strange and wierd at first, but after using the manual, its pretty straightfoward. build quality seems excelent. Everything is packaged nice and well. I dont know about the included thermal paste, as i always use mx-4

Cool, im also looking at the Phanteks PH-TC14PE right now, then again that also seems to have crappy mounting and for some reason the black version have white fans which makes no sense  <_<

Alright, the difference in temps between the 2 doesnt seem all that much tho, the Dark Rock 3 also seems less bulky. Looks like it would do fine as someone who only does moderate overclocks.

I have mounted mine twice...  Once with the MOBO removed and the second time with the MOBO installed.  it is very quiet and looks great.

As far as difficulty, using the included wrench would be a pain.  HOWEVER, if you own a socket set with a socket extension like I do it is a piece of cake. with the fan removed you have relatively clear access to the screws with an extended socket....

As far as performance, I appear to have lost the lotto with my 4790k so I dont really push it.  so i would have to point back to your graphs.

The DRP3 uses 2 towers along with 2 fans compared to the DR3. It's more than just an additional fan. The DRP3 hangs a but behind the NH-D14 in performance while the DR3 is closer to the NH-U12S.

Ditched my plan for any of them and im going with the NH-D15S, i really like the Noctua mounting and with the single 1 fan in the middle i can change for another color if needed :)

In that case, why not just stick with the NH-D14 you already have?

The cpu, motherboard, ram and cooler is gonna be used in my livingroom pc, if i were taking it out to sell i would just keep the NH-D14. The Dark Rock 3 and D15S also cost the same, so it seemed like a no brainer  ;)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TwV7mG What i plan on getting, the Ranger board seems like a nice board at a good price right? First thought about getting either a Gigabyte or MSI board, but there is no way in hell i am ever getting a board with Killer NIC again, the E2200 killer nic on this board is the worst.

It's okay if you need the board's features. Otherwise, there are plenty of cheaper boards that don't make any difference to performance and the extra money could go towards something else like moving up to a 6700k.

Also, what's with the overly expensive ram? There are similar and cheaper kits: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f42133c15d16grr

Guess it depends on region, i live in Denmark and our prices are all over the place, G.Skill cost even more. Also the ranger here isnt that much more expensive than getting something like a ASUS Z170-K board. A cheap board which doesnt use the crappy killer nic would be the Asrock Z170 Pro4, got most features except for usb 3.1

Yeah.. it can be a bit misleading when you use the US version of pcpartpicker.
