Dollar shave club is awesome! Support the troops!

Eldwyn23

No matter where you're from or who you are you can appreciate a comapny donating to troops in need. That's exactly what the Dollar shave club has done for the us troops. I found this on facebook,

https://www.facebook.com/NewlyCrunchyMamaOf3/photos/a.272175492853046.65374.177757295628200/1007192129351375/?type=3

(This is a safe facebook link directly to my own repost.)

And I was floored. After hearing about this company from sponsoring LTT all this time and to find out they're truly a great company with outstanding morals was amazing. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, feel free to move it if need be. Hope we can raise awareness for this great company, and give them the respect they deserve.

Not bad.

PR sometimes does good things, though that seems like a rather low quantity given the extremely low cost to produce such things.

Also, I believe Gillette is actually beating them cost wise with their razor program.

Really? How are they? Ever since seeing their bronze colored handle I've been thinking about going that route.

Id put it near on par with the gillette fusion proglide at a fraction of the cost.

4.90 per cartridge, 4 cartridge per shipment, that's $19.40 for their most "expensive one", compared to $9 for DSC for the same amount of cartridges.

Even the cheapest from Gillette would be 17.50 per shipment. Compared to $1 for DSC.

Not what I'd call "beating them cost wise"

Depends how you look at it.

DSC ships 4 cartridges once a month for $9.50 (I'll use Canadian pricing here because that's what I get first).

Gillette ships 4 cartridges every 4 months for $18.

Therefore Gillette is cheaper.

I don't think one needs to go through 4 cartridges a month unless you're a pretty heavy shaver.

Well who says you need to use those entire 4 cartridge in a month?

Honestly a single cartridge from DSC last me more than a month. I even had to cancel my subscription because I had a bunch left overs that I still haven't gotten to use.

And you can even get them "every other month" (meaning every 2 months), so that'd be the cheaper than Gillette right there as it'd be $20 total in 4 months, compared to $20.30.

Also, Gillette's shave club is basically non-existent in Canada. The plan selection redirect you to Amazon.ca.

So if you were to use a single DSC cartridge per month like I do, in 6 months, at getting it every 2 months, you have enough cartridge(3x4=12) to last you an entire year, for $28.5.

To get the same result with Gillette, "every 4 months", pay $20.30, that's $81.2 per year.

Oh and did I mention that shipping on Amazon.ca is only free if you spend more than $25? Meaning that Gillette will also cost you more since you have to pay shipping.

Well I have been contemplating on who I should go with....Although I have seen that you can set it up with DSC for every other month for those infrequently shave. So you can have it set up for $9.50 every two months. Thus being closer to the Gillette price and have four more cartridges. Also, look at the price per cartridge per month not just the monthly cost. You would then get the unit price of each blade.

Lets do some quick and dirty math.

DSC ==> $9.50/(4cartridges*1month)=$2.38per cartridge a month or $9.50/(4cartridges*2months)=$1.19 per cartridge a month Gillette $18/(4cartridages *4months)=$1.13per cartridge a month

Clearly Gillette has the lower unit price but by only 6pennies

Please note I am using USD and the prices given in this thread. Also DSC has cheaper options that beat out Gillette's price point. What I like about Harry's is that I can buy my razor and as many cartridges as I would like without having to be tied to a monthly plan.

Exactly ;) So it'd be a waste. I also feel the Gillette blades are just better quality, for a very, very small amount more. (I've held both but not shaved with the DSC. I have read reviews though).

I just used the cost because it's what comes up first for me based on location. I purchase from the US most of the time, with free shipping.

Still cheaper though ;)

Harry's is a great choice as well.

I'm currently torn between Harry's, because of the special edition handle, or getting a titanium Mach3 handle from Tactile Turn. Which is unfortunately twice the price.

Not to be like that, but you can get the OEM blades that they use for a lot cheaper.

The $2 razor is a joke.

There are some things that are worth spending a little more on. An extremely sharp blade I rub against the flesh of my face is one of them.

Very true, I remember reading that on...LifeHacker or something I think. You did have to buy them in bulk though.
