Keep GTX 780 6GB or grab a 980Ti

Ordained87

Hello everyone,

I have been considering grabbing a 980TI to replace my 780 6GB card. I am now on my 2nd RMA to EVGA to get a replacement 780 and am currently awaiting the 2nd card to be delivered and I am receiving another 780 in return, I do wish they would've sent a 980 for how much the collateral cost was, but that's ok. The turn around times on delivery is tough, almost been a month of waiting due to shipping and delivery over the span of 2 card returns. I am using an Asus ROG Swift  PG278Q 144HZ monitor and while its decent, the 780 seems to be showing its age pretty good at 1440 on the newer titles. I also do Folding at home as well.  Would you all recommend grabbing a 980ti? I do know Pascal is looming, which kind of puts me in a tough spot. What do you suggest? I haven't tried SLI as I prefer strong single cards.

Thank you

-Jason

I personally think it is a bit late getting any 900 series cards at this stage and i suggest waiting until the next generation of the nvidia cards come out but that is just my personal opinion :/ hope that helps!

Go for the 980Ti for sure. Even if the next generation of GPU comes out, the 980Ti won't be outdated, and like you said, the 780 is showing its age.

If you either have 2 780 6GB's, or can find another for not too expensive, definitely keep them! :)

THIS! I´d would come close to a miracle if we would see something earlier. There would be a ton of leaks already.

As usual nonsense. You post stuff like that, where´s your source, or is it your infinite knowledge?

Yeah, low end cards with an emphasis on lower power consumption. Mostly for laptop applications.

I read the news too, even the fine print ;)

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Did they say it was laptop-only? I know they said the 480 (or whatever it's called) class of cards coming

You could wait to see what AMD/Nvidia offer at CES.

It is a good upgrade but i think the 780 has more than enough power to last till the next generation of cards are released.

Yep, it's not about speed but lower power consumption for battery life.

BUT, Nvidia should be releasing news on their new cards today.

I could've sworn they demoed a desktop card

NO!

They showed a comparison between a Polaris based mobile card and a god damn desktop GTX950! And capped the FPS at 60 so nobody could see how much faster the nVidia card was just to show the efficieny of Polaris.

They used a chip in comparison to a current "Hawaii" chip to show it will get there, but the cards being released first are not. Might get a 370 version is the rumors I heard.

I see. Thanks for correcting me in a mature way (unlike others). Let's see what Nvidia have to show

It's still VERY exciting as it offers a low power consumption alternative to Nvidia in the laptop market. (Not to go too off topic sorry) And yeah I am very interested as to what the news is today from the Nvidia camp. Yesterday was a joke on their part.

Maybe a gaming laptop with max-tier GPUs? That would be neat.
