Formatting taking way too long?

hi and thank you for taking the effort to read what probably may be me being impatient, but anyway, yesterdey at 7 pm i put an old notebook 250 Gb hard drive to format, i plan on using it on my pc  so i started formating it, i've got 2 partitions one of 25 gb(12%) and another of 150(2%) the left 60 is unassinged  by the time im writing this its 12 am, so its been 17 hours and so far i've got 12% and 2%, is this normal?

No... That seems to be an extremely long time to format a harddrive. You should have deleted the partitions first then formatted from there.

that seems a bit long even for non quick format

when it finishes run crystaldiskinfo to see if its dying and crystaldiskmark to see how fast its max speed is

there were 4 partitions, i couldnt format the others so i deleted them and got the unassinged space, but for the other 2 i just formatted it, i can cancel the format, but will it ruin the drive?

no, it isnt quick format, as i said above, if i cancel te format will the drive get damaged?

It should be fine. Cancelling and reformatting should work

But even if it doesn't, you can always get a cheapo hard drive

yep.

 

so far i cancelled the format and deleted the volume, and that left me with the whole 230 gigs, and in 1 hour i am at 18%.
