Newegg PSU calculator?

zinton

When using the Newegg OSU calc it recommends a 800w PSU but with other calculators such as Outervison Extreme it only recommends a 500w PSU. Is Newegg just trying to get me to buy a bigger power supply?

Every calculator is diffirent. For example Asus calculator recommended 1000W PSU for SLI GTX770, while the guys on the forum said gold 750W is enough. So best thing to do is ask here on the forum, or use the calculator on pcpartpicker, I find it accurate because it displays actual wattage of the system. And to answer your question: No they aren't trying to suck your money this way.

Well its going to be an OC'ed 8320 and dual 7950 in the future, but does the 750w have to be gold or can it bronze?

Well, that CPU eats twice as i5 and Radeons eat much more than nVidia. A gold/platinum 750W will do, but at least bronze 850W will be better, and they are usually cheaper than super efficient 750W.

Maybe triple crossfire if you need the power. It eliminates visual microstutters.

Dont forget that psu's run most efficiently at certain loads. Just a complete guess but maybe some psu calculators take that into account?
