Help about G3258

Hi guys me and my friend talk about building our Gaming PC Cause we were still using our Laptop to game, So my question is what is the better choice for gaming?

by the way my friend got his PC already and he's been playing with it and getting much much more difference in our laptops.

"Friend's Build"

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 (OC @ 4.3GHz)

MoBo: Asus H81M-A

RAM: Kingston DDR3 1600Mhz 8GB

SSD: Kingston SSD Now V300 120GB

GPU: EVGA GTX960 SSC 2GB (Overkill for Only Playing Dota 2 Reborn and CS:GO)

"My Personal Build"

is also the same as his cause i gave him the idea but my question was the original MoBo should be Asus B85M-G and the thing is which one is better?

the only reason i cant buy yet cause still waiting for a new G3258 here in my Local Store.

Price

H81M-A = $60.42

B85M-G = $78.72

Please do Understand we are still newly employed people and money here is really tight so when we decided to build this it was really really really what we can afford.

about the GPU. they say that GTX 950 and up model give Less ms deley in MoBa Games i really dont know if thats true, we just did what we really need. and that is to play 8hrs in 3 days a week.

EVGA GTX750Ti FTW = $170.21

EVGA GTX960 SSC = $227.65

Hope Someone can give a Friendly Advice on G3258 and tips and tricks. we just really like to have our own "Personal Dota 2 Reborn PC Rig" for Practicing and Playing for Fun.

Thanks for the Help.

Agreed at this point a Pentium makes no sense, the 860K is definitely better thanks to it's 4 cores.

Not really. A R9 380 draws 25W more than a 960 as a 960 WILL draw 140W thanks to GPU Boost 2.0 autoOC and a 380's 190W is rated with a 20% OC headroom built in so it technically only draws around 160W

Not quite. For things like a NAS or HTPC they're still plenty good.

Hell, for people like my grandma and mom they're fine since they do a fair amount of multitasking and web browsing. My grandma was quite happy when she had to use my rig for a little bit while hers was out being repaired and my GPU was sitting around somewhere (she went from an A6-3650 that I tweaked to my Pentium).

No lol... Unless you buy the cheapest 400w PSU the 380 is just fine on any 500w PSU with the build. 380 > 960, A 520w Antec HCG, sometimes the EVGA B2 750w is on sale for $40 and some XFX are on sale that are 550w

Yeah i think OP has gaming in mind though as this person wants a gaming GPU.

Honestly... Even for gaming they aren't too terrible. BUT, it depends on the game. Most of the games I play I can (somehow) manage 60FPS with pretty much everything set as high as it can go. Unless that game happens to be GTA IV. It runs like ass on everything.

I looked up a 5960x/980 ti rig running GTA IV at 1080p once without mods... couldn't sustain 60 O:

I'll be damned, 120W for the card? I imagine it's a cherry-picked sample but that's still quite a bit lower than the "190W" rating on the box. Hot damn.

nonono GTA IV. Not V. You know, the one that runs like ass no matter what.

Apparently with a few small tweaks, you can put most of the main settings to high at 1080 on GTA V with a 750Ti/G3258 and still scrape 30FPS (which I'm fine with in GTA, TBH).

I actually did a test. I did it at 720p minimum and 1080p maximum. Literally no difference in CPU usage or framerate. The game is optimized like trash, but it's so fun. Why peoplethatportedit, why...

R9 380 4GB FTW! Also the V300 is very slow for what it is (an SSD) Also can you find a H97 anniversary or whatever? I've heard that they're cheap. I agree more with the posts above though.

Can testify to SSD part.  My new Corsair Force LS is much faster.

Join the Appleitionist cause! See spoiler below for answers to common questions that shouldn't be common!

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

Athlon 860K > Pentium

R9 380 > 960 by 15%

thanks for this but currently where i live and store i have access are limited. I even found a Athlon 860K for a price of $159.54? i think thats a bit high for my personal Game of Choice.

Also, the i3 4130 and FX 6300 both outperform the Pentium by a good 40-50%

we already tried G3258 with another i3 4170 and if you where here with us the only difference we notice on Dota 2 Reborn is that the i3 is doubled the price.

Agreed at this point a Pentium makes no sense, the 860K is definitely better thanks to it's 4 cores.

i would agree but will the $64.89 compare to $159.54?

R9 380 4GB FTW! Also the V300 is very slow for what it is (an SSD) Also can you find a H97 anniversary or whatever? I've heard that they're cheap. I agree more with the posts above though.

there are no R9 380 4GB FTW in my Counrty, and the SSD ill go and take a Screen Shot if i got time to go to my friends house the PC we Build really only use 30GB and we only turn it on for like 2mins and we are already in the game so i really dont think that ill spend more cash on high end SSD that the only purpose of the SSD will be just game no productivity included.

I get solid 30FPS in GTA IV, i capped it though or it would do upwards of 50FPS then drops to like 35 making it look odd..
