I recently received a 980ti for christmas. Here is a link to the amazon page it was purchased from.

http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-GV-N98TG1-Gaming-Graphics/dp/B00ZJP9DMC/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1451519658&sr=1-5&keywords=980+ti

I attempted to overclock it in MSI Afterburner and even when overclocking by just a few megahertz it would be fine until I ran a game like Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, or 3DMark: Firestrike. It consistently crashed and gave me issues any advice would be appreciated.

Before this card I had a Sapphire R9 290 card in my system. I thought at first that maybe I need to uninstall its old driver or something similar to that, but I also have an AMD CPU so I am not sure how to tell the two apart.

My specs:

AMD FX 8350

MSI 990FXA-GD80

Seasonic X 1050w

Corsair h110

Gigabyte 980ti

Any help is appreciated thanks!

You HAVE to remove the old drivers. DDU is a good tool for that. Once you've done that, try again. (Also, your CPU is massively bottlenecking your card, you might wanna look at upgrading that as well)

also for oc id recommend using the OC GURU 2 from gigabyte.

I have the same gpu and i was getting some weird clocks and voltage when using afterburner. I use OC GURU for my oc/voltage and afterburner for fan curve and monitoring

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

Best thing to do when starting to OC on your GPU is to put the Power Limit % all the way up to as high as it can go. It will not mean that your car will use that extra current it just allows for it to happen.

Some general concepts for Overclocking:

If you add to the Core Clock and it freezes/breaks in any way --> add more core voltage

Same with memory.

Repeat till you reach your "safe" voltage =/= safe temps

Cool @Altecice any more tips? I am kinda new to this

Err not really. Id suggest hunting around for YT guides for your card. But just remember that you may not get the same results as its a silicone lottery, you COULD even do better!

Cool I just did a little bit of testing and got my Memory to up by 250 and my Core up by 210. I haven't changed the voltage though @Altecice Also turned up the fan speed to 60

Make sure to test that with tools like the unigine heaven benchmark.
