How hot can a gtx 970 run before crashing ?

Hey guys, my games keep crashing and I think its something to do with the Gpu. It is running at 70 degrees celcius during games but they still crash. If this isn't the reason why its crashing then what's your opinion on it. Please help, only a beginner.

70 Celsius isn't really a worrisome temperature for a GPU, it must be something else. Some system specifications would probably help.

Wouldn't go over 90 with it lol, or anything else for that matter.

If it is running at 70 celcius, I don't think it is your GPU thats causing the games to crash because that is about normal temp for it to be running while in use.

On topic of fixing it, have you installed correct drivers, and are there any signs of OS corruption (files missing etc.), what is the last thing you did that might have lead up to these crashes?

It depends. NVIDIA's set value is something around 80-85C, but the maximum temperature for the GPU itself is 98C, though you definitely don't want to run the GPU that hot for long periods of time.

 

Using applications like MSI Afterburner, it is possible for you to change the maximum temperature to a higher value.

Are you overclocking? If so it might be bad OC, otherwise you might have problems elsewhere (Drivers maybe). Still under the T° limit by quite a bit.

If you have an overclock try turning it off or increasing voltage as it may be unstable, although, I have a 970 and a 4690k and ever since i put them in my mineral oil case (I don't have mineral oil yet so cooling isn't very effective right now). I have had crashing and small freezes in games and I assume it's temps (my cpu can get up to 65C). I think it may be my RAM getting hot, try putting a fan by it if you have a case with poor airflow.

i can overclock my GT 730 to run at  110 C and still get it to run stable (And cook meat on it)
