Does this ram suck?

So my friends computer has this ram and he has been having bad gaming performance with gtx 950 and amd a10-6700, even in games like CS:GO. I don't understand alot about ram so could you tell me if this ram is causing bad gaming performance?

RAM is definitely not the problem. His is perfectly fine. The cause for non-optimal performance lies elsewhere.

he has 2tb seagate barracuda HDD with 7200rpm, Model: ST2000DM001

Any throttling going on? Like are all the temps safe? The harddrive doesn't seem to be a problem to me, I've had a 1tb barracuda as a primary drive for a while and it didn't affect gaming (at least that I would have noticed)

Try 9-9-9-27, then 8-8-8-24, 7-7-7-21 or 7-8-7-21 and see if it boots and is stable.

The memory kit he has should be a high density 16GB kit -- meaning 2 X 8GB, rather than 4 X 4GB.

If so, for high density modules (8GB or stick), CAS 11 timings is perfectly normal -- especially on some of the older model 16GB kits (they were all CAS 10 and 11).

 

 

What is holding your friend's PC back lies somewhere else, and I am leaning towards either the GPU (the GTX 950), or the APU (A10-6700)...at the hardware side.

It could also be software related, but it is too early to say, and we don't have much information in that regards.

 

The A10-6700 does support Base Clock overclocking. Your friend could give the APU / CPU a quick overclock, and see if there is any improvements.

The A10-6700, at stock, operates with a Base Clock of 100 MHz.

100 MHz X 37 = 3.7 GHz the CPU operates.

 

You should be able to increase the Base Clock to somewhere like 105 MHz ~ 110 MHz without needed to touch the voltages.

This should bump the chip up into the 3.89 GHz ~ 4.07 GHz range. It is not any amazing overclock, but it should be enough to check if the A10-6700 is the cause of the problem..."bottleneck" if you will.

Probably the CPU, CS:GO is really CPU intensive. I don't know what kind of FPS he is getting, though.

I had them in one of my schools. I had a good ol PC I built on my own with a pentium running at 333mhz until about 2008ish. Basically only played Fallout 2 and Diablo 2. X3

RAM probably isn't the problem if it works. I have 8 gigs of super sh*tty 1333MHz RAM from an old HP desktop and I haven't had any problems. Check his temps.
