New SSD

So I just got a Sandisk 120GB SSD, after plugging in the power and sata cable, Windows will not recognize the drive, but the BIOS will. The device and disk managers will not see it either. what am I doing wrong?

Might be drivers. Did you try installing drivers?

as far as i can tell there are no drivers......at all

i got the same one and had the same problem. you need to make it recognize it. you need to assign a new letter to it and partition it as a usable drive.

Search in the start menu for "create and format harddisk partitions" and you should see a disk with all gray unallocated space, right click on the gray space and click new simple partition. The rest should be easy.

all I see, my normal HDD.....the SSD doesnt show up at all, only in my BIOS

You haven't formatted it yet. Go to windows disk management (under my computer) and format your drive with NTFS.

before I killed my PC (I removed the sata drivers and got a inaccessible boot device error screen, attempting a system restore but I removed about 100GB+ of data between the time i removed the drivers and the time the recovery was made, so Idk if it will work) the drive wouldn't show up to be formatted in the menu. 

 

Edit* the recovery finished and so far its working

but now I have a bunch of games that say they are installed from the recovery, but aren't......this is gonna be nasty

Ok, so I just made a clone of my HDD (extremely bare bones now ) to my SSD. But now that its done, if I take out my old drive, it wont let me boot with the SSD. How do I get the SSD to have the boot ability?

Honestly, what I would suggest you do is A. Do a completely fresh install of Windows on your new SSD with the HDD unplugged from the system while this happens, B, plug it in after the install, C, assign a drive letter to it in disk management, and D, move files where they need to go.

Used Reflect, and yes it was. I just formatted it and im going to try it again.

That might help. I've had a few instances where Reflect just failed to image the drive properly.

Ok, so im going to deactivate my current windows install and make my 120GB SSD have windows 10 on it. Once I make the bootable USB and install windows and reactivate it on the SSD, what do I do about the left over windows stuff that is still on my HDD?

e: here are steps to remove it,

Open Disk Cleanup > Choose your HDD > Click clean up system files > Select the Previous Windows Installation/s check box, and any other check boxes for the files you want to delete, and then click ok > Click Delete Files

That would be the best thing to do.

However if you like you can remove the old Windows files manually. Seeing as that Windows is no longer activated, needed, used or maintained then you can just delete it like you would any other files.

Nah man, I'm going to return the SSD, no amount of fast boot time is worth this, not until I have enough for a 1TB SSD so I don't have to delete hundreds of GBs just to do what I want.......

Faster boot time is but a very small benefit from the ssd. The biggest difference it makes is the snappiness and responsiveness of the system over a traditional hdd.
