gpu upgrade - ok this way?

Hey guys,

a friend of mine wants to upgrade his pc. currently he's running following:

• i3 4130
• HP Mobo + HP Pavilion case
• GT 620 or something like that
• 300W HP PSU
• 1TB HDD

Because GTA IV and V and newer titles don't run on it and even in some older titles he has to turn down the settings, he asked me what he can improve to play these games. Because the i3 isn't that bad and he doesn't want to spend the money on a whole new system, I came up with following:

 

• bequiet! System Power 350W (here the 400W version http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/665) ~35€
• MSI GTX 950 OC (http://www.msi.com/product/graphics-card/GTX-950-2GD5-OC.html#hero-overview) ~165€

 

NOTE 1: he wants to keep that case because its size and price reasons so I went with nothing higher than the 950 because airflow in this case isn't the best

NOTE 2: the PSU has to be also very short (HP PSU size: 150 x ~90 x 140 mm). More than 140mm is critical because there's a metal thing from the case on the back of the psu to hold it in place.

NOTE 3: case dimensions are h x w x l: 387 x 175 x 414 -> not to long gpu

 

Would you do anything different? What other parts do you suggest? Does it work for the titles he wants to play?

I think it is fine like that, with those limitations it will be really hard to get more than that. I would say R9 285 Itx from sapphire but it is a bit pricey

If you can get a higher wattage PSU you could get something like this really short GTX 970:

because ventellation isn't the best in the case (only a fan at the back with <10cm) I worried about the temps...

I would say you have a solid upgrade already then. I would recommend trying to get at least 80+ bronze effiency with say the be Quiet! Sfx power 2 400w version but if it costs too much you have a solid choice. Good gpu at the price point too.
