So today my brothers GPU (ASUS GTX560 DC) suddenly died while gaming. It was nearly impossible to get into Windows and if then there were a bunch of green lines and wrong pixels. I then replaced it with a new gt 440 that we had lying around for years and never actually used, surprisingly it can handle both 1080p screens @60Hz and runs CS:GO as well, which my brother plays most of the time, but its too slow for anything else, so we need a new GPU. I thought about getting a gtx 960 with either 2x6pin or 1x6+2pin. I know that the CPU is bottlenecking, but its still gonna work at least as good as before :)

Specs:

AMD Athlon X4 760k FM2

ASUS A88X FM2+

2x4GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance

Nvidia geforce gt 440 (temporarily)

shitty custom case from a company that I think went bankrupt xD

Silverstone ST50F-ES 500W 80+; it has 1x6pin and 1x6+2 pin PCIe connectors, so I can use many GPUs, the gtx 960 needs 30W less than the gtx 560, so that one definetely would work.

PSU link (http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=248)

thanks in advance!

PS: the GPU was 5 years old, which is probably the average life span of a middle class GPU)

I am not sure what u would like help with here but... That card should work but will have a heavy bottleneck!!! Will be faster than before but maybe by a tiny bit because of CPU! Good luck ;)

To be honest, I'd opt for an R9 390. (no not a 390X) Newegg has one for $289 after rebate. Only $89 dollars more than a 960, and has a huge frame buffer and tons more performance. But if the $89 is important then get the 960. It'll work well too.

Do you even fanboy bro?

I could give you an R7 360 for about £60-£70. Also, are you from UK or US or anywhere else?

Austria, but you dont need to give me yours :)

Well I am trying to get rid of it anyway. But now I know you are in Australia there is no point as I would spend the same amount of money on postage that I would get back.

R9 380 >> GTX 960

we dont have a high end PSU, also I am not buying AMD hardware, since I never worked with any of their products in the GPU department, the case ventilation is also very very very bad. We only got an AMD CPU cuz there was a good deal on amazon when we were looking for the CPU. ;)

How much faster is the gtx 960 2G in 1080p in comparison to the gtx 560 1G, is it theoretically 30% faster? Practically the performance isnt gonna be much better cuz of the CPU limitation

If the 960 is theoretically 30% faster, the 380 would be 45% faster then :P Also, it uses basically the same amount of power and kicks out roughly similar levels of heat.

Ok, so we got the GPU two days ago and its working great, the game only lags when the CPU cant keep up, but r6 siege works fine, Battlefield 4 ultra maxed out gets 60fps average. Its performance is better than expected, even with the shitty CPU

Enjoy :P
