Hey people!

My friend realy wants to play Star Citizen, he already has the game and stuff. But his PC can't run it quite well, these are his specs :

CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 965

RAM : 8 GB Dual-channel DDR3 @ 805 MHz

Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3

Graphics : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost 2G

Any recommendation on what would help with running it?

Thx in advance :D

Those specs seem perfectly enough to run other games with this engine at medium graphics. Have in mind, however, that Star Citizen is still alpha and there are zero performance optimizations present. What we are currently doing is not playing a game but testing alpha builds of one. Some beefier hardware than that is kind of a requirement.

This.

Plus the fact that at the moment there are a lot of server side bottlenecks so any frame rate issues could be due to this so this needs to be kept in mind.

Snip

A 650ti boost should actually be fine on medium settings. If you playing the crusader map there are some framedrops due to server load. If your problem also persists in Arena Commander you can try to tune down the default settings a bit by following this guide:

My recommendation is to pause his hype, wait for the game to be released, and build a brand new killer PC with that 2017/2018 hardware. Slap whatever savings he's allocated into an investment, haha.

Patience is a virtue.

ExMachina (2016-Present) i7-6700k/GTX970/32GB RAM/250GB SSD

Picard II (2015-Present) Surface Pro 4 i5-6300U/8GB RAM/256GB SSD

LlamaBox (2014-Present) i7-4790k/GTX 980Ti/16GB RAM/500GB SSD/Asus ROG Swift

Kronos (2009-2014) i7-920/GTX680/12GB RAM/120GB SSD

They said you would need stuff from 2 generations ahead, think we are here now which is what I'm running and it seems to be spot on but you do have a valid point and this is going to be a game worth playing in 4k as well.

This is about right my current specs are running around 70fps in Arena Commander or about 30fps in the Universe but that is caused by server issues at the moment. If the game continues to be developed at its current rate (According to the 2016 SQ42 release plan) I would imagine this generation or the next generation of hardware would be able to run the game pretty damn well. My specs are in my sig for reference.
