Norton

I think the problem is Norton because they're blocking private networks on Windows 10 firewall, but I have an Ethernet cable hooked up to my PC and there is no internet. I know I have the correct drivers, but I think the probl is that Norton is blocking private networks, does anyone know how to fix this?

Norton does not block viruses, norton IS the virus!

It used to be crap, but Norton nowadays is a very good antivirus program, I use it personally.

Still haven't used antivirus in over 5 years though. I just don't need to use it. I have enough common sense to know exactly what I am installing before I use software on my computer and to avoid sketchy websites.

Oh, I agree, common sense is the best defense. But people keep writing off Norton as being bad just because it was in the past, which is why I try to dispell this whenever I can.

Uninstall the Norton (one of the worst AntiVirus (claiming as antivirus) S/w out there)

 

Just use Windows Defender and Malwarebytes.

 

Run ADWCleaner weekly.

I beg to differ. My dads PC with an i7-3770 uses almost 30% CPU usage during virus scans.

Of course it does that during scans, but it uses no resources when in day to day use. I'm currently at 0% CPU and 8MB of RAM.

It's actually a very good AV nowadays.

It's using 8MB out of my 8GB of RAM. One one thousandth of my RAM ain't half bad.

Windows Defender is one of the best imo.

I can definitely understand the notion of Windows Defender + common sense but me being my paranoid self I prefer to have a dedicated program on hand, and I find Norton to be an excellent AV for my needs. I tried BitDefender once and it completely screwed up my system and started using a ton of RAM so I ditched it and returned to Norton.

Just ran a scan and the average measure was 8%, highest measure was 12% and lowest was 2%. Scans are only done once every 24 hours, so these resources will only be taken up once a day for about 30 seconds. When Norton Is running usually It doesent even use 1% of the CPU. I did the same test on my Celeron laptop (quad core 1.83 Ghz) and the highest recorded was 19%, average was 15% and lowest was 8%. So no, Norton Is not a resource hog.

Ok so it must be working out for you. After all everyone's usage case is different.

How do you even now it's a resource hog when you haven't used it in years... I have it on every PC and no-one even notices it

Also people that say that they don't need an antivirus probably live alone... My brother for example uses my pc but he downloads a shitload of crap he has 0% common sense
