"safe to put a fx 9590 on a msi fx990 gaming?

Go to solution Solved by Dabombinable,

yep, I meant that, not enough tdp

Yepup one Was going to get formula iv -z, but it was $100 more

Its AM3 anyway, so with your FX9590 it wouldn't have even posted.

Edit: Also, it is part of the ROG series.

Don't get a 9590.

If an FX is a must, get an 8320

 already got it

This is a fanboy we're dealing with, look at that Titan Z and FX 4300.

fx4300 was a upgrade to a free gpu

I hate to tell you this but just go out and get an i7-4790K (and a corresponding motherboard of course). I upgraded to that from tha FX-8320 and Framerates improved significantly.

eh, don't have any free cash anymore

Depends on what you mean by 'safe'.

M8 you should just get an i5. It'll shit on the 9590 except in heavily multithreaded workloads.

Thatll cool that cpu down

*whispers*

(It runs really hot)

The mobo doesn't cool off the CPU. In fact, the CPU heats up those VRMs quite well.

i meant the shit :)

Got a bequiet dark rock 3

Seems to holding together ok

Soooo far....

MSI said, for the 9370 and 9590, it requires liquid cooling on this board. But, ya.

Even when I had an FX 6300 I had to put custom cooling on the VRMs to OC it. The board I used had literally no VRM heatsinks and it was only a 4+1 phase xD.

You'll probably be fine. I still recommend getting an i5 or i7.

That'll actually make the VRMs hotter. Air coolers blow some air over the VRMs and transfer heat, so if you stuck a liquid cooler on there where there is no airflow...

Doesn't make a difference. Pretty much you want an ROG or TUFF (Sabertooth) motherboard to safely run an FX 9590.

"Due to the high TDP, please be noted there are limitations while using those CPU:(i.e. special thermal required..

FX-9370(FD9370FHW8KHK, 4.4GHz, 8C, L3:8M, 220W,rev.C0,AM3+)

FX-9590(FD9590FHW8KHK, 4.7GHz, 8C, L3:8M, 220W,rev.C0,AM3+)" -MSI  When they say special, they mean liquid cooling.  There are mobos that due allow air for these, but I wouldn't suggest anything less than a dual fan rad.

yep, I meant that, not enough tdp

Yep

That's just marketing. You'll be fine though, that board is made for the 9590.

Yeah I thought this was that one chip that drew so much power that not only do you need the right socket (obviously) but beyond that there were only certain motherboards certified to be able to handle that power delivery without dying under the load.  If the MSI one OP wants to use isn't one of them, I wouldn't try it...

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

can u post a picture of ur custom cooling vrms please

I don't have the board or chip anymore. I just bought some VRM stick on heatsinks off of Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007XA969G?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00

And then stuck them onto the mosfets and VRMs. Kept them much cooler.
