Great choice of parts mate. If i could offer one suggestion though u should have gone with the high performance sp120's and just undervolted them if u want silent mode. Would just give you more play room with overclocking your cpu by turning them up high while gaming if you decide to travel down that road. I mean with a K series cpu why not squeeze as much out of it as u can...

Remember to first do a test build. I suggest you to use the stock cooler that comes with the CPU. To see if it boots up, to know what you need for that is pretty simple.

If you do not have the option to get 99% alcohol! You could use the corsair cooler aswell, but you have to remove it - when you install the motherboard into your case.

If you have not watched Linus his build guides yet, ill link it here! It's very detailed! And this will help you good with the build.

Goodluck with the build, looks very solid! And im very jealous!

Yeah, I've seen a ton so far. Newegg, Linus etc etc. I'm just going to throw on the H100i for the test boot.

I just got (literally got it yesterday) the Black & Orange version of the Phantom 410, trust me you won't be dissapointed, so much room to work with, you can afford to be slight messy behind the motherboard (the case won't bulge as long as you do minor cable management behind there).

Thanks for the tip :) I'll keep it in mind!

I went with the Silent ones because I did some researching on the internet and apparently there is barely any difference between them.

I know about some people that used Vodka, alcohol from fruit (cheap) and stuff like that. but they always use some cloth.

Linus strictly uses 99% alcohol, but than wipes it with woilet paper and his T-shirt. Interesting.

Kinda as far as im aware off, the alcohol is pretty important. Dont quote me on this tho, but the way you clear it, its still important - but he did not used his tshirt - he used that labratorium jacket. (if my brain serves me well tonight)

And well, the alcohol is pretty cheap - you can buy it in most supermarkets.

I just cleaned my CPU and used around 90% alcohol my mom brings from work (she's a dentist).

And Linus made videos before the build guides where he installed CPUs. If I remember this right he used his t-shirt in the video where he upgraded his test bench from LGA1366 to LGA1155.

/EDIT: Also it's in his techquickie on applying thermal paste.

So, Why is it so important to use alcohol and a lint free cloth I believe to clean thermal paste off a CPU. Is it so when you clean the CPU it doesn't leave any residue and any fibres that may have come off say a paper towel?

No no no. You use the paper towel with alcohol, then one wipe without alcohol and then you use your t-shirt or it's sleeve to vipe bits of paper towels that can be still on the CPU.

Most people use a coffee filter because they don't leave residue.

I've finished building (without the GPU...)! I'll throw up a more interesting post with pictures I took. Sorry about the quality of the pictures, they were taken from my phone.

I have a question though, In the BIOS it says my CPU is running around 45 degrees Celsius. I connected the fans cooling the radiator to the fan controller on the 410, could switching the fans to run off the H100i block fix it? Or should I reseat the block?

Well this has been a great experience for me. I'd have never thought to have built my own PC or have it as powerful as it is now!

Here come the pictures!

Putting the CPU in!

Putting the RAM in! (I may have forgotten to check what way round the RAM goes before I put it in *Facepalm*)

s60u.jpg

H100i Installed

o46f.jpg

I HAVE A WORKING SYSTEM! :D

o20.JPG

I/O Shield in!

b6xb.jpg

Motherboard in case! (Then had to remove it because I derped out and forgot about mounting the H100i first....)

Installed the H100i (After removing the motherboard...)

yth1.jpg

Motherboard back in!

h9rn.jpg

SSD and HDD in place!

e06.JPG

PSU! (I hate non-modular PSUs.... Too many wires.... Too few uses)

3ptk.jpg

Sadly, The CPU wire was about an inch too short to route behind the motherboard and get plugged in.

mxso.jpg

And... Here's my setup minus the bag!

zj4b.jpg

Receiving the GPU! (It was much bigger than I expected)

de7u.jpg

GPU in my hands! (What a beauty)

i8x2.jpg

Installing the GPU meant I had to remove the Drive cage and move my drives to the bottom ones

xtyr.jpg

And in goes the GPU! (Yes I remembered to power it)

4tzi.jpg

THE END!

Final thoughts:

This has been a great learning experience for me and I'm happy that everything went as smoothly as it did. I'm still amazed at how fast Windows installed off a USB Stick. I should honestly work on my cable managing skills a bit. It may help in the future.

Most of all, Thanks guys for reading. It wasn't the most interesting Build Log ever but it means something to have to you guys have some minute interest in it :)

Nice job for your first build :). I would definitely consider getting an 8 Pin extension but you did a good job with the rest of the cable management I can see in the pictures (no picture of how you routed the PCIe power cables). Also, for future builds you might want to consider matching colours better, a mixture of black w/ blue, yellow, red and silver isn't going to look nearly as good as a rig with matching colours

Route your 8 pin underneath every single other wire so you get it in the top hole properly. if not get the extension for like $5

Flip the PSU. the CPU cable will fit then and flipping it helps with temps a tiny bit

This, it will also help hiding cables better since they will be closer to the hole.

Agreed, but I don't even have mine like that because it looks better flipped with the fan up. lol. I think it's because I spent an hour getting mine right in there

Have you thought about spraying the blue plastic piece red, getting the red insert kit from Corsair (http://www.corsair.com/en/power-supply-units/psu-accessories-1/700gs-trim-insert-accessories-kit-red-and-white.html) or just removing it completely to avoid having it clash with the rest of the parts?

I'll probably take the blue plastic off it. I took it off then put it back on for some reason. I'll do it soon.
