What do you mean by "tippers"? If you want tips, by all means go ahead! I've only played like 400 hours of skyrim... xD

Hey. I can't answer your question, but I'm downloading the game and might start playing it this weekend. Is there an online mode? If so, add me on Steam : sisiyeyewiwidada

The only way for playing "online" is with a mod. I haven't really followed development of it, but I believe it's quite playable.

There is no online mode whatsoever.

Tip? Use Fus Ro Dah on mobs near cliffs, often, watch them fall. Fun times.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess I have to buy The Elder Scrolls Online for that? Is an online-only game? Sorry I guess I could find the answer on the Steam listing... but I think you can inform me better :-)

Elder Scrolls Online is nothing like skyrim. Don't purchase it expecting an online version of skyrim. It is a totally different game, with only kinda similar mechanics. ESO is an online only game, yes.

Skyrim is one of the best RPGs, most ES games are.  As far as single player games go, always fun for me.

If you have not discovered Nexusmods.com yet, you will eventually.

I recommend mods that enhance gameplay, like a better inventory system.  Don't mess with OP items and mods that change the game balances.  On your first play-through, play it the way it is meant to be played.

The only mods I used on my first run were the UI/inventory improvement, a personal helmet I made, and a few body meshes/re-textures ;)  Spent a good 100-150 hours on the run.  Did everything except the 20 gems.

Well I'm probably not gonna make a lot of friends, but I just played the game for about half an hour and haven't liked it so far. I'll take a second shot this weekend though to try to understand all the hype around this game. I don't like the graphics (it's a 5 year old game but I've seen much better ones released at the same period). I don't like the fighting system neither (at least for now since I've only been using a sword). I can also notice that the game can't run smoothly on ultra settings on my GTX 750 2GB. I'm probably getting something around 20-35 FPS, depending on the environment.

I've seen that many mods have been released, including some that optimize the resource consumption, but for now I only want to play the game the way the developers wanted us to do.

Skyrim is not that much of a slouch in terms of system requirements.  You absolutely need a good CPU and a decent GPU to enjoy it at max (or near max) settings... even without the high resolution texture pack.  If you have the high res version, try to revert to the regular version.  I played it before the high res pack was released, it still looked fantastic.  I was running a Phenom II X6 1055t (3.8GHz) and a Radeon HD 5850.

Here's a good guide to follow when you're ready to start modding, as a good baseline to work off of:

http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.9.2

There's a lot of bug fixes/ performance tweaks and mod recommendations there as well, if you wanted to play through as though it's unmodded, just with less bugs and better performance.

A half an hour isn't long enough to get what skyrim is all about, if you haven't played a Bethesda game before. Expect a huge time sink though if you find you like it.

Intel i7 6700k @ 4.8ghz, NZXT Kraken X61, ASUS Z170 Maximus VIII Hero, (2x8GB) Kingston DDR4 2400, 2x Sapphire Nitro Fury OC+, Thermaltake 1050W

All in a Semi Truck!:

Interesting. I don't know if I'm using the high textures pack. Is it bundled with the game? I guess I could reduce the anti-aliasing and settings like that. Last night I played for another 30 minutes and the game was running much more smoothly so I guess it has something to do with the environments.

The cities, like Markoth, will cause the most strain on the system.  Being out in the wilderness is easier.

  • 2 months later...

Guys I'm reviving this thread just to take back all the things I've said about this game. After giving it a second chance, I just fell in love with it and I'm willing to buy all the DLC's and Skyrim-related stuff. Period.

Works well with Unlimited Bookshelves.  I throw those stones up on a shelf or mantle above my breeze home fireplace whenever I'm in town.  Also good for putting some of the unique items/clutter found in the game on shelves too (IE bloody tankard, Torsten's & Saerek's skulls, Pelagius' hip bone, claws etc.)
