Upgrade from 8350?

I have an 8350 paired with a 970 and wondering if I should upgrade to a 6600k. I mostly play Dota2, CSGO, Rocket League and most Single Player AAA games. Should I wait for Kaby Lake or whatever's coming next or upgrade to a 6600k now?

6600K is the obvious upgrade, but i know that FX works perfectly fine for you right now.

Id go for it. You should see some good fps gains in the games you mentioned.

I would grab a i7-6700K cause it is even better! :D (then again you may be able to upgrade to a new CPU later on same board with a BIOS update?)

Don't do it, (Yet) I previously had a 8350 oc to 4.7. And the main reason why i did so was because I had a crossfire setup and the 8350 just could not keep up with all the data that two gpus were sending to it. Which caused massive frame drops. Also I play ARMA 3 a lot and the 8350 was just too weak in the 4 core department, play a tactical shooter at 8 fps is not fun. But since your running a single card and your not playing games that are super CPU demanding than don't upgrade. I play CS GO on my render system 8350 + 650ti and it runs great. The only reason to upgrade is if you getting really bad performance in games. Like getting 30 fps while your gpu is capable of doing 70-80 fps.

Because quote unquote "upgrading" to a 6600K is a waste of fucking cash.

 

6700k is better because of its higher clock speeds and its higher IPC

 

But if they were at the same clock speeds, there pretty even in most games. 

 

The main reason why someone will want to get a 6700k over 6600k is because of the ability to Render and Encode faster. Or in my case play a CPU intensive game or a require high IPC so both GPUs are happy. So spending the extra $100 on a CPU that doesn't perform better in his case, IS a waste of cash.

Buying a 6600K still has no real benefits coming from an FX-8350.

I for one would not upgrade. But If he feels like his frame rate is low and feels its more CPU bound than I will suggest to upgrade. But for the games which he listed, it should not make a noticeable difference

If the OP is interested in improving his gaming ability, then I would suggest upgrading GPU instead. Keep the 8350 and the motherboard, and invest the cash into a better Video Card.

Ok so in your case I would say save up. Right now we are in a postilion were nothing major or worthwhile towards upgrading has come out for systems your age for example. From what it appears better advancements in the GPU and CPU market are around the corner (we hope) so this is a perfect time to save up and upgrade once these new products come out. If you upgrade your CPU you will not be seeing as large of a jump in performance as most people might make you think for what you will be paying for a Skylake system right now. If you upgrade your GPU you will be running into bottleneck issues were again it will not be worth what you pay for that card. Your CPU has aged well due to its high core count and should do well for the next few years until you upgrade. Hold onto your money and see what happens or also check out the used market and see if you can find some good deals. 

 

EDIT: I also assume your games are running more than fine for what you are doing and if they are not then there might be a problem elsewhere within your system that might be causing it. 

 

I hope this helps and I hope you make a choice that you are happy with in terms of yourself and your wallet ;)

You don't need to upgrade at all. 8350 is more than up to the tasks for every game you mentioned. I would wait until zen comes out at least
