How "Frowned Upon" Is My Watercooling Loop?

I desperately needed some 90 degree fittings for my loop so the runs were not as retarded. I ended up going for some brass 90 degree adapters from the hardware store. I imagine brass is OKAY here, as the radiators also use brass? On the one on the GPU, I used tinfoil tape to make it look less like brass. I am just waiting for a leak... I used O rings AND Teflon tape to seal them, and after a couple hours, it seems to be working.

I put in my modified pump which has a heatsink on the bottom and a red chassis. The whole reason I tore it apart is because I needed to take out my PSU and swap it for a spare 600W EVGA PSU. I have to RMA my G2 :(

This damn thing has parts from nearly everyone.

EKWB GPU block

Phobya CPU block

XSPC pump block and GPU fittings

Generic/unknown nickel barbed fittings

Generic/unknown radiators (I was told they are not cheap ones though, just no stickers on them)

Swiftech res and pump

Primochill tubing

Bitspower plugs

Res is temporary, I am buying a new one at some point, as this one is about to fall apart. That would be bad.

How ghetto is this? I plan to paint the 90s red like the other bits when I install the new res... Dat sexy backplate though.

Those brass fittings aren't bad they are pretty standard just aesthetically not as nice, just noticed one thing though what did you use for the GPU backplate it looks like it's very thick.

I used a piece of acrylic plastic. I made the edges look nice with a strip of electrical tape.

Looks mean nothing to me, as long as you didn't mix copper an nickel aluminum or something, fine by me.

(This assumes it isn't leaking)

Copper and nickel...? Umm... I thought copper and nickel was fine. I know aluminum and copper can be a huge issue. My loop has been running for probably 8 months now on nothing but distilled water.

Oh ok i though he used something like 3/8" thick acrylic due to that thick edge.

Copper and nickel are fine together in a loop they don't cause any issues unless you have silver since nickel tends to have problems with silver.

I still have no biocide... What should I use? I did notice a LITTLE bit of goo in the reservoir.

I dont understand the problem with it. Looks like a well put together water loop to me, what exactly did you think would be frowned upon?

The fact that I used plumbing fittings from the hardware store :P

Oh lol, that just gives it character.

edit: were they cheap by the way? Like cheaper than the legit fittings your supposed to use? I've been looking into how I can cut costs when I eventually watercool my cpu/video card.

Those fittings are likely no worse, and if they are the right size who cares

Yeah that would be a good idea, something like PT nuke, or Mayhems Biocide is a good option. It also would be good to take a good look to see if there is any build up when you plan to add in that new res/pump combo.

I bought PTNuke from amazon when I bought everything else, but I never got it. Silly amazon. I plan on just getting a new res since pumps are expensive, and I modded the existing one to run far cooler and its red :P

If they havn't sent it to you, i'd make them provide a refund, or get the product there. Theres no excuse for this kinda shit when were talking a big company with a reputation like amazon.

I agree. But it was far too long ago to where they would probably do anything about it...

Well I would get some for sure before refilling the next time around, as for res combo units I found the XSPC D5 photon to be the best deal in terms of a pump/res unit but overall everything in the loop looks good.

I'm late to this party, but I've probably got the title of ugliest watercooling loop on lock yet I'll put its performance up against anything.  Nothing wrong with doing stuff that isn't aesthetically pleasing as long as it works and doesn't leak.

I don't like those plastic hose clamps though.  They're too finicky to get off (sounds like my ex wife?).
