NF-F12 - LNA

The LNA brings it down to 1200RPM by a resistor, wouldn't that resistor also make the fan run at a lower minimum RPM (below 300)

 

My mobo supports as low as 12.5% max fan speed PWM, which would be 187.5 technically at 1500.. and 150 with LNA

 

Or does the resistor just limit voltage? If so it would just be at 300rpm anyway

A resistor limits current. Without any additional resistance on the line, the motor in the fans will pull whatever current it can at its rated voltage, up to its own resistance. Add additional resistance or reduce the voltage through a voltage regulator and the fans slow down, since either will reduce the current.

The NF-F12's minimum rpm is lower than advertised. From my experience, it should be able to go down to ~7%. If you have a header that can provide proper pwm control, don't use the LNA.
