Haswell spreads over the i3, i5 and i7 range, i will have plenty of CPUs to upgrade to (if i go for the i5)

The 4690k is a waste of money, it gives you incremental improvements, for way too high a costs

the XEON is fine, for a while. But since it has no OC capabilities worth speaking of, it is dead in the water. Especially for gaming.

The only REAL upgrade you have, is a 4790k. Same CPU as i got. Great CPU, but it has its limitations.

 

you are also limited to MAX 20 PCIe3 Lanes on the CPU.... unlike Skylake which is 28 Lanes... meaning better performance in general.

Since you plan on getting a non "Z" mobo, you will NOT be able to run faster then 1600MHz RAM, which also will limit your performance a little.

The fx 6300 is a great chip for a budget computer and what not. Seeing it is $80 and the 4460 is $180 if you don't have the budget the fx 6300 is solid. It might bottleneck a 290 but if you are buying the CPU due to low budget then you won't be getting a 290 either

In all honesty, while that CPU is great. it is better for OC (validated at low TDP means lower TDP while operating at higher frequencies)

 

however, OP didnt seem TOO keen on OC... so i would suggest a 6350, as out of the box, it will perform better then the 8320e, due to much higher frequencies.

However, going with a 8320e, disabling 2 cores, overclocking the remaining 6 cores to 4.5 GHz should yield a pretty cool and quiet CPU, that should by all means perform admirably

The 770 is also a great card the only reason I upgraded was GTA V at 1440 needed more then 2gb of Vram

I would love to get a new skylake i5 along with a z170 mobo and DDR4 ram like you suggested, but i have no way of getting money to get actually good parts like that, I dont have a job, my main source of money is holidays. If budget is an issue. get the FX 6300... it has about 1-2 years left in it before it will be useless. By then you should have SOME form of job.

 

it may be "smarter" to opt cheap, set expectations to around 45-60 FPS rather then 60-120 FPS... Then just wait, save up some money and get either ZEN or Kaby Lake once these arrive...

no jim. you must learn that "because it uses 125w" does not neccessarily mean it MUST have a 990FX board. Not even close.

A Gigabyte GA 970A UD3P is more then capable of safely running, and even overclocking a 125w TDP AMD AM3+ FX CPU. MORE then adequatly capable.

ASRock 970m PRO3 is fine for a 125w TDP CPU, even though it is only 4+1 phase.

The only thing that can acctually be "future proofed" in my opinion is PSUs, even then if the new Titan graphics card needs 2x12 pin connectors nothing today has that so "future proofing" is bull, i also like Fractal and NZXT but i prefer Corasir and Cooler Master, this would be a good build but quite expensive

i got heating cables in the floor... an OVERCLOCKED R9 295x2, an OVERCLOCKED Core i7 4790k, alongside my second PC... an OVERCLOCKED AMD A10 7870k APU which is paired with an OVERCLOCKED Sapphire HD 7950 Boost....

 

BUT... its MINUS 2 Celcius outside... because i live in the far far north... where winters are cold, supposedly, but not anymore because global warming.

why? these are 8+2 phase, high quality VRM overclocking capable boards that has been known to work well.

 

i would comfortably attempt 4.3 to 4.5GHz on these boards. but i would not be stupid enough to think that they would be capable of running faster then that on a 970 chipset.

the 9590, is officially ONLY GUARANTEED TO WORK WITH THE 990FX SABERTOOTH and 990FX ASUS CROSSFIRE FORMULA.

AMD does not reccomend any other boards then these two. Meaning, other boards may work, but the CPU manufacturer themselves has set those as the minimum requirement.
