bigpete82

RAIDing anything comes with benefits as well as pitfalls (if we are talking about RAID0). I personally run two SSD's in RAID0 for increased speed and the ease of having only one device show in Windows.

For speed you want RAID0

for backup you want RAID1

you shouldn't bother with raid

it can go wrong at many more places than just a regular drive

if you really need 1GBps+ speeds then buy an NVME SSD

but I highly doubt you need those speeds anyway unless youre a professional content creator, so a single SSD is more than enough for you

It's not a waste if you have fun doing it.

doing what...

running a benchmark and seeing a bigger number?

What are you so salty about?

You ever heard of a second computer?

Raid them once to see what kind of speeds you get, chuckle a bit, turn the raid off and use them as two separate drives or put it in another system.

Your life must be pretty dull if you don't like experimenting with anything at all.

~snip~

Hey there bigpete82,

Any potential difference between the risks is in the data recovery possibilities. It is nearly impossible to retrieve data from a failed SSD due to the nature of storing the data on them (on electrical charges on NAND cells rather than written on magnetic platters on HDDs) compared to the rather easy data recovery from HDDs.
Everything else should be the same in terms of risks of data loss, drive dropouts and potential dangers. :)
The RAID type depends on many things including what you are looking for( speed, redundancy, combination of both), what type of usage and how many SSDs in the single RAID array. As @Altecice suggested the two simple types of RAID for two SSDs are RAID1 Mirroring for redundancy (in case ne drive fails) and RAID0 Striping for speed increase (in order to increase your sequential speeds). :)
