Windows 10 Files

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Ok, What if i just copied the users folder Would settings come back

you dont want to copy ANYTHING from the previous installation other than files like documents, pictures, videos, whatever

everything else should be reinstalled and settings reconfigured

So my computer ended suffering the automatic repair loop and I tried everything on the internet but it all failed. So I made a installation disk and reinstalled windows but keeping my files, Windows has now moved everything to a folder called "windows.old000" therefore I was wondering if I moved everything in there to root would my setting shortcuts accounts.etc... come back like before.

Many Thanks TahirMia

You cannot just copy a system like that. I'm sorry, but you have to install all your programs manually.

Yes, but you may be able to copy some programs (ones that don't rely on the registry), but you cannot copy the whole system. You cannot replace files that are in use. And even if you did, you would still have the problem you had before.

Look, some programs need to use the registry, once you reinstall windows, those programs may cease to function. Others can be launched from anywhere on the drive and still work fine.

When I was installing it said it would keep all my files info and move them to "windows.old". I remember when I was upgrading from 7 it also made a file called "windows.old" and everything worked with 10. as far as I can understand it kept everything but moved them to "windows.old". I thought that if I replaced the contents of "C:" with what is inside the folder with what is there then I would get everything back to how it was before. I have checked every program and they all work!

if you replace the contents with what is inside that .old folder you will make all the issues come back, along with all the residual crap that accumulates over time from installing and uninstalling programs
