AMD for first try

kinofiron257

Would it be rather stupid or smart to buy an AMD FX 9590 as your first CPU, because no one ain't messin' around with that 220W TDP. But because its for 200$ on Newegg, it looks urging that 'Meh, what the heck could go wrong?'... FX 8350 is also a second choice though!

Providing all the blessed cooling for the CPU, would it still rather be a good valued build with such a processor? I am keen for valued PC, if not then i5 is also and option too! (Plus the all praised FX-8350)

FX-8370E. More energy efficient while maintaining FX-8350 performance.

Hey, pal. IDK about you. But they make freaking awesome processors. They may not make the world light on fire but they're still good. please don't insult amd cpus again. they know what they're doing.

AMD's processors are next gen. Nobody takes advantage of them so therefore it performs less than optimal. If people took advantage of core count then we would have better experiences with AMD.

Let the guy have ideas and opinions. If it weren't for ex friends who were and still are like you, then I would have gone AMD.

It's well known that AMD doesn't have the worlds best single threaded performance, If you need single threaded performance look at your i5 option. However, if you want to rock applications that are mutithreaded, then your AMD choice is a solid bet. You can get an 8370 and over clock it for free, rather than paying for the price increase. But if you're the kind of guy who want balls to the walls stock performance from AMD, the 9590 is going to be your friend. Provided you can cool that monster.

Do you even fanboy bro?

AMD has been lagging behind intel for a decade now. There's a reason apple doesn't use AMD processors.

They were *this* close to using AMD when making the MacBok Air.

Intel offered a deal. They would essentially make Apple a "Client with benefits". They were a client which could tell intel what they wanted.  AMD didn't offer that.

I'll never make the mistake of buying an AMD cpu again xD I have used it for over a year now and it's been getting really shit haha.

Agreed. They certainly don't have the best single threaded performance but for multi-threaded workloads on a budget AMDs higher-end FX series are beasts. All CPUs have their purposes.

Its just been a while since AMD has been competive in the CPU Market, its why they took a break, they needed time to see how they were going to even compete with the newer Intel CPU's. Its just been a sad journey to see them go down since Intel has no more competition for its latest CPU's. Maybe for its Budgeted CPU's.

I'm not sure why people think they still aren't. They may not use the lowest power, produce the least heat, or have the best single threaded performance, but that doesn't mean their processors are slouches. I would know too, I run them on a daily basis. Sure, you may miss 1-3 FPS on a game, but it's not the end of the world.

I like Intel as much as anyone, considering my next build uses a 5960x, But just because my needs require higher single threaded performance, doesn't mean the OP's will. We shouldn't be putting brand bias ahead of good advice. The OP asked if his CPU choice was good, and it is. We also stated that if he needs more single threaded performance to look at his Intel choice.

Do you even fanboy bro?
