480 - 102*C core under load

290X reference - 95*C core under load

Titan Z - I think it was around 90*C

The reference 290x gets a terrible rep imo, the card itself is perfectly capable of running low 80s with a custom fan curve. But the stock "silent" mode keeps fan speeds down way lower than they should be resulting in those 90+ temps.

I had one for a bit and it easily stayed way cooler with a bit of tweaking.

Ive had a 3 way crossfire setup with hd4850's.

Ill tell you thats a proper room heater :D

Wuah, i Think i still have my 3x 4850's lying around. I should try to plug them all onto my pc :D
