I was playing Skyrim when randomly I hear a pop sound and a small hissing. The system shut down then after some time rebooted on its own. I shut the PC off and inspected the PSU. Nothing was visibly wrong other than 2 caps being slightly bulged. One cap was known bad in the past but it hasn't been a problem and the other seems to be new but I don't remember seeing it before. Anyways the system works except I have a few burnt connectors.

Sorry for the bad image but my cellphone sucks. The 2 molex connectors are turning brown from my GTX 460 and the wires are starting to melt. The melting is happening inside the connector and the insulation on the wire is burnt at the pins.

already flirting with disaster and yet, pressing onward. the discoloration on the

connectors (brown) is from heat. heat is generated from resistance. the more

resistance the more heat builds up. the plastic connector is literally melting from

the heat. might want to replace the PSU is the near future (tomorrow) before

something does happen that you cannot control and life/property is lost from it.

I know this PSu needs to go but i can't afford one powerful enough for this system that I trust. I could buy the cheapest PSu ever that meets the power requirements but I want a good brand.

Well if that's the case i wouldn't use the computer too much until you can afford one, at least game on it.

Air tree nailed it, you should not use that PC as it presents possible harm to

person/property over what gaming? safety should never be passed-over for the sake

of personal pleasures. you got a time-bomb there and no one knows when it will leave

you PC-less and possibly homeless and no one else to enjoy life with you because

they were taken in the devastating fire from your ill and in need of repair PSU. kinda

dwarfs the ultra need to continue using it, huh?
