transcend mts800 m.2 ssd doesn't work

KabouterMuts

i have bought a new m.2 ssd yesterday and it arrived today in teh mail but it doesnt work? I have installed it like the instructions and i am on a desktop motherboard (asus z170-A). When i booted up my pc i got the information that there has been new hardware detected but it doesnt show up in my bios under sata drives. so what is the problem? i am on windows 10 and it doesnt in particular say that it is sported maybe thats the problem?

I believe most m.2 drives are PCIe, and not sata, I could be wrong though. and I don't even know if this is the problem, but try checking the pcie devices, and not the sata ones.

Did you make sure what type of m.2 ssd it was?

Most motherboards use pci-e m.2, but my laptop for example uses a m.e slot hooked up to sata, and the other types of m.2 wont work with it.

Google it I suppose. spec sheets should say weather the ssd/ your motherboard use m.2 sata, or pci-e

Most M.2 drives are SATA interfaced. Very few are PCIe-based.

Really? I though my laptop was oddity for having it hooked up to sata.

Whats the benefit for having m.2 sata over m-sata? I noticed that the ssd in my laptop is much longer than the m-sata drive in my friends laptop, but does that just reduce costs?

It just reduces cost. No real performance difference, just a different form-factor.

Your SSD is SATA M.2. Your MOBO supports both SATA M.2 and PCIe M.2. It should work.

I believe they look visually same, but checking the spec sheet for the ssd you got, and your motherboard should reveal some more info.

Then its m.2 sata. but as @The Official Czex said, your motherboard should work with it.

sorry but, where in the bios?

It should be found under "Boot" or "Advanced". I don't remember which. Are you in Advanced Mode (F7)?
