Replacing a 970 with a 390 seems silly if I already have a 970

Get a msi or brand of choice Radeon r9 390 better price to preformance at the same price with 8gb ggdr5 vs the 3.5 gb fast and 0.5gb slow memory on the 970

I changed a few things that will help to include future upgrade paths.

1. Changed the RAM, Went for X2 8GB sticks because it will leave you room in the future to add an additional 16GB...Not to mention it cost's the same amount.

2. Changed the video card to the 390...Because the 8 Gig VRAM and the slight edge in performance in some games along with the fact its currently 30-40$ cheaper.

3. Changed to a fully modular power-supply. I was looking for the 850 Watt mark you you could in future add another GPU and crossfire, however when looking for one i stumbled upon this 1000watt from EVGA...This thing is fully modular and is a beast for that price...

All these changes and you still work out 15$ or so under your original list...

Let me know what you think:)

New PSU and a better cooler maybe? Like a 280mm rad.

I really didn't want a all in one water cooler cuz I find them louder then air cooler. PC is on full time in my room so extra noise is a no

So this is my current build. What do you guys think?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RmyyYJ

It's a pretty well balanced system. I wouldn't have bought a CX power supply, as it's ridiculous that their power is rated at 30C, but a 4790k and a 970 probably aren't going to push it enough for it to become a problem, especially since your 4790k is on a 212 EVO and not water or something where you could really be pumping up the voltage.

In a year Pascal will be out, so you should be able to soundly beat the 980 Ti at that price point. Maxwell wasn't even a node shrink and the $550 GTX 980 beat the $700 GTX 780 Ti, and Pascal will be a shrink from 28 nm to 16 nm. So forget the 980 Ti and get a Pascal 80 series in late 2016 that will probably end up being better.

That is a very very good point. I'll be waiting for that to come out :) that would save money in the long run

Yeah, it's not like a 970 is going to become outdated within that year you're waiting for Pascal anyways. I have had mine for a year and I'm happily surprised it hasn't seemed to fall off at all in games this year vs games last year.

If you want a more accurate time GTX pascal are projected to come out around Q3 2016 and Pascal quadros around Q1 2016 :)

This all depends on how much gaming I will be doing. I will defiantly be looking at a 80 series gpu

I still can't believe they won't have a GTX Titan out again this spring. It's an annual tradition for them to bend enthusiasts with too much money over each Feb/March.
