is there anyone else still running a LGA 1156 cpu on this forum? if you are did you overclock? what is your overclock?

im running quad core  i5 760 2.8ghz @3.3ghz 1.13v stock intel heatsink

I have a friend building on this socket, I tried convincing him not to but he already got most of the parts by the time I found out. He intends to overclock when he does I will try to let you know if you're interested.

in my opinion lga 1156 socket is still good for mid end gaming if you get the cpu and mobo combo for a good price. for example i got an antec tp-550 80PLUS bronze semi modular psu+ intel core i5 760+ mobo(p7h55/usb3) and 4gb ddr3 1333mhz ram all for only $100 ABOUT 6 months ago from my friend. i was going to go with the newer sandy bridge dual core i3 but the older quad core i5 won by a lot in benchmarks. and my 1156 i5 overclocks to 4ghz easily

I gave my friend my old 1156 build with an i3-540. but I don't think it's old enough to have to upgrade now. people don't give newer CPU's the credit they deserve.

Then get a half decent GPU and you'll be good, CPU wise it's still pretty good :)

I might, I kinda want a new cooler though.

 

Not sure if the 4 year old thermal paste on the stock cooler is cutting it.

All I know is that in my air starved case it reached 89 degrees on load with prime 95

I occasionaly still rock my old slot 1 PIII, and I overclocked it a few years ago from 500MHz to about 550 or 600MHz. Forgot how I did it, but I still did it.

I had an i5 650 but now I have the 3570k. My old system is hanging at my friend's place.
