Do Nvidia GPUs need a Active Displayport to HDMI?

Hi. I am looking to upgrade from 1 monitor to 3 but I was wondering if Nvidia GPUs need a Active Displayport to HDMI adaptor or not. I know AMD cards need one but what about Nvidia GPUs?

Modern generations of NVIDIA cards don't (at least 600 series and above, not sure about before that).

No. Only AMD cards have ever needed an active DP adapter for multi-monitor setups.

I'm fairly sure that you only need an active DP adapter if going over 4 monitors.

 

I've got 3 hooked up to my gtx 970 right now, using HDMI, DVI-I, and DVI-D.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Max per card is 4 monitors for nvidia consumer cards.
