Battlefield 4 Officially Runs at 720P on PlayStation 4

Before everyone shouts 'FAIL' without thinking; bare in mind that the most expensive singe card solution- a $1000 GPU like the Titan in crysis 3 cannot give you a consistent 60fps when maxed out with AA and everything at 1080p. Let alone higher resolutions... That's the sorry state of the GPU industry...

Hmmm not sure but at 720p they may be able too...

the titan isn't just made for gaming, it's centered around content creation and the double floating point features it offers as well as cuda development and other things that it's "computing" power works for.  Linus says this almost all the time when talking about it lol.

it's a essentially a quadro level card that kicks butt at gaming as-well

OT:

Seems somewhat stupid, I read somewhere the xbone/ps4 are going to have somewhere around a 7850/7870-ish performance, and 7850/7870 can achieve 1080p 60fps @ bf3 in medium-ish settings

7750?

Not so sure.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1xatW

I went a little over the budget, whoopty doo lol it includes the OS and can do many more tasks the consoles can't not to mention that pc games are cheaper.

if you want remove one of the 4 gig ram chips and bada boom

also factor in what a 500gig drive would cost your console.

found a cheaper 7850 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1xaAd

Why would I?

You can add 30-50 bucks for mouse, keyboard and HDMI/DVI cable

because games are going digital? and I can still go cheap on a few things I just chose my personal lowest standard as well as a blue ray writer as those extras would definitely come in handy (e.g the 500 gb hdd instead of a cheaper one) 30-50 bucks is nothing compared to the overpriced hdd storage that would cost around $70-100 for just 500 gb.

and again, after buying a single console game you'll have made up for the price difference the build I made has.

don't take me wrong, I still like consoles, I'm just implying you are wrong at the price being anywhere near good as it also doesn't provide upgradability.

...

What about multithreading? Since Battlefield 4 will take advantage of 6-8 cores the CPU you chose would be in a significant disadvantage, wouldn't it?

I'm no console fanboy who tries to defend his GDDR5 eraser, but they're actually a value if you plan not to upgrade every year. I'm sure they'll play games in 5 years time too, but not the PC you built here.

We may wait until the game is released to know if a $400 pc destroys a $400 console.

just to add something: would an A10-6800K run Battlefield at a reasonable Framerate to compare it against a console?

multi threading will have an impact yes, enough to make the cpu obsolete? I doubt it it will still perform around the same as a console.

I would compare the A10-6800k if I knew more about it but from my understanding it won't outperform a 7850 so I doubt it.

(the reason I chose that specific CPU is because I have one in my closet and it could run Crysis3 at decent frame rates paired with a GTX 560 non ti and it destroyed BF3)

The XB1 is $500. The PS4 will have a bundle where you get the PS4, a controller, and a PS Vita for $500 or you can just get the PS4 and controller for $400.

It is cool. Most PC enthusiasts do not follow consoles very much.

I've heard rumors of that bundle but has it been confirmed yet?

Well, in this video, Shuhei Yoshida basically says "It is possible. Never say never." lol

So no, not yet. But I am hopeful.

i dont think that can run anything a 60fps

and the cpu would bottleneck the system

Who said anything about 60 fps? unless you meant 60 fps at 720p...
besides I updated the GPU in a later post for those complaining about the GPU as for the cpu:

Your avatar is one of the few things that make me still like consoles and that's the console only games like kingdom hearts, ratchet series, Jack etc.

you guys need to calm down, at least more people can run it at 60fps. What the hell were you expecting, a gpu with 1100 stream processors to pump out the firepower of a 7970. Its still decent for a launch title. The beauty about consoles is that their games look better and better as time goes by. Just compare uncharted 1 to the last of us.

But the real reason that happened was because developers became better at the low level programming consoles had always worked on (except the xbox line) Now consoles work almost identically to a PC, so console develepoment will follow a similar path to what PC programming does, maybe the best we can hope is that development for low level systems (and eventually consoles) will go up, kinda like what Blizzard does.

Sony and Microsoft should have come out with consoles that are truly powerful that can run games at 1080p 60fps. Otherwise the PC gaming market will carry to eat into the console space. These consoles are already out of date even before they come out infact they have been out of date for 2 years, a 580 is still better than these consoles. By the way you can pick up a 580 for £120 off of Scan.co.uk.

I do think that most games will run at 1080p 60fps. It's not like Battlefield 4 with it's massive maps, long draw distances and detailed graphics is representative of the typical game. It's more demanding that most. It's one of those games that needs a PC to really shine.

Developers don't have low level access to the titan, but they do on the ps4. They know exactly what hardware the game will be running on as well. 1080p@60fps should be possible. It's also doubtful that the ps4 will be running max filters.
